Snakehead Whisperer Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Beam isn't bad for its price, especially the rye. Evan Williams is another cheaper but decent drinker. The 15.00 bottle is dang good for everyday use. For $10 it's hard to beat Evan Williams. It's not as good as it once was, but still the best bottle on the bottom shelf IMHO. I've yet to try it, but I keep hearing good feedback about the Kirkland bourbon at Costco. 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 15, 2013 Super User Posted February 15, 2013 Want a cheapo that will beat Evan hands down try Benchmark. About the same price but MUCH better. Jeff 1 Quote

Jeff Benchmark is pretty good stuff I had several years ago at a bbq joint. I haven't seen it too much though, much easier to find Evan Williams. Incedentally do you know where and who distills it? I knew buffalo trace and Blantons where one in the same but ran across this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_Trace_Distillery Looks like they make Pappy Van Winkle too if I interpret that correctly. Super User 00 mod Posted February 16, 2013 Super User Posted February 16, 2013 You are correct. One they do not mention on that list that they also produce is Fireball. Jeff Quote
Jake P Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Makers is just OK IMO. I prefer JD> everything I have tried. Now I haven't tried pappy vanwinkle yet. Based on Roberts tequila recommendation about 6 months ago, I will give it a try when I feel like shelling out 125$. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Want a cheapo that will beat Evan hands down try Benchmark. About the same price but MUCH better. Jeff this reminds me of Tito's Vodka. it was recommended to me by the guy in the liquor store one day, he said it was just as good as the top shelf vodkas and cheaper. Also the bottle at the time had a label saying how it rated higher than Grey Goose, Belvedere, Ketel One, and Absolut. the Titos is pretty good... Quote
