ok i am from the north east mass RI area and i am looking for a good swim bait i really want to get a good one and give it a whirl even  if it means spending 20 some dollars

i would love to hear about some swim baits that you guys are experianced with and that you love and also some you think i should stay away from

I am assuming you are talking about a true jointed swimbait. They are pricey..why not try a paddle tail type,,Money Minnow etc..before you drop a bunch of cash on the pricey ones.

ok welll i will give that a try but i really want to get a hard jointed one maybe tru tungsten one or spro BBZ1 on that idea but want to hear for someone how the swim bait they advise works.

You didn't say if you wanted a 'hard" or soft bait. Also the size/weight may require a heavier rod. For example, the huddleston 6" trout which is a soft bait is a proven fish catcher, and a great bait to start with, however it weighs around 2 ozs. and should be thrown with line in the 12-17lb range depending on the line you use. The Hudd, also comes in a weedless version.

For smaller baits, you could try the BBZ 4" shad baits, or a soft bait like the basstrix ect.

ok well i fish in a decent size pond for bass so i was thinking a sinking hard swim bait. and i was thinking 4 inch? idk wht do you guys think i really like to catch numbers over just a few large ones. but what would you think for size and brand?

If the pond has some structure, i.e. wood, big rocks ect, you may want to get a slowsink. If it has weeds ect, then I would go with a soft weedless bait, the grassminow would be a good start too. Keep in mind that bigger fish will be more inclined to smack the bigger baits, yet the smaller ones will still have a go after them. There's really No right answer, even here in cali, swimbaits differ in certain areas..You could try whatever your comfy with.

I have been using Castaic Swim Baits for about 11 years now.  I would say go with their rock hard series.  For right now all they have are trout, but don't let that bother you.  I have no trout in my waters, but I have caught more bass on that little 4 inch thing than anything else.  They have every type you could want, soft, hard, paddletail, huge muskie swimbaits, etc...  check out their website at www.castaicswimbaits.com, when it comes to swimbaits in clear water don't go with that paddle tail crap.  A true swimbait should be able to get the forage to school with it.  I have an original hardheaded threadfin shad (I bought it in 1999), and have had shad school with it.  The whole body actually swims, not just the tail wiggling like a grub.  I also have used the tru-tungston, but have yet to have any luck with it.

you asked wich baits to stay awat from , much to the poster a few up , stay away from castaic baits and reaction strike ( now are one and the same , reaction strike bought castaic) reaction strike makes garbage swimbaits that don't run true out of the package because they are mass produced very cheaply with no quality control , total waste of money . as for castaic , they haven't made worth while baits in years . the "rock hard" series was a joke !!! that's why you see them in the bargin bin all the time . if you want some good baits that catch fish , here are some good companies to buy baits from -

I've done well with the Strike King / King Shad, I've caught a lot of nice sized fish with this bait and it's the ideal size for Northern waters in my opinion. I also like the River to Sea V Joint Wake Minnow, this one sells for about 10$ and is a very productive bait.
