Just got done putting this reel together.  Just a quick cell phone picture (which is not doing justice to this reel at all).  This thing is sweet.  I'll try and get some better ones tomorrow.

On this one, I did a silver base coat to match the stock Citica color, black print over the silver, and then clear/clear on the top coat.

That reel looks absolutely amazing.

Would it be possible to dip the frame to match?  Just wondering, because that would really push the reel over the top as far as looks.

Fishwhittler,

Yes, you can dip the frame.  Have to be very careful with the masking/etc so as not to mess with the tight tolerancing of some of the moving components (frame/spool, etc)

I am not yet brave enough to try it.  Might try it on an old reel I don't use anymore.

Right, thorough masking is a given with painting as well.  The reason I asked is because I did not know if the contours of the frame rendered it impossible to achieve a "clean" hydro-dip coat.

That is another problem...some of those areas are a little steep and might be a problem with dipping.  Another reason to try the frame on a test reel first.

Sounds like a good project for that Citica 201E I have sitting in the basement right now…

If you don't mind my asking, what topcoat are you using?

It's an automotive clear coat.  DC2000.

Thanks for the info!  I looked up the DC2000 topcoat and found the Deltron® info sheet, but nowhere to purchase.  Is this something that must be purchased in-store?

Thanks once again!  I'm looking into doing more reel painting.  I've done a few reels with epoxy topcoat, but it's really too thick and tends to pull away from sharp edges.  Aerosol clears are not up to the job, so it's largely come down to a two-part urethane clear.  Now I just need to find a good one.

That's amazing.  I'm not familiar with hydro dipping, but assume its similar to the process when they dip other sporting goods equipment to achieve a camo pattern?
