So I came over to watch my sons like I do every morning so my ex can go to work and there was a bird in her bedroom. She went out and adopted a 5 yearold African grey parrot. I have to admit it is kinda cool looking and he makes some neat noises but I still think it was a bad idea on her part.

I knew she was thinking about it and I took her to price out cages but we talked with a few pet shop owners and owners of greys in one shop and they all warned her not to get it. Not that they are bad birds but we have 2 little kids and then her bangal cat has been looking at this bird like it's dinner lol.

Idk time will tell how this bird makes out it is cool though iv been feeding it peanuts and banannas it won't let me take it out though but it let's me rub his head actually asks for it "rub hugos head" as it lowers his head. The kids so far this morning have been good they know not to put there fingers in the cage. She spent her tax return on this bird me I have a bait gorilla knocking in my wallet he kicked the bait monkey out lol.

Anyone here ever have parrots? Or a grey

We had that argument that I want a bird so she got one but I want a kestrel or a redtail since that's what we can have in NY for hunting with. I guess this one likes chicken wings which I find very odd lol kinda like eatin it's cousin lol

One set of my brother and sister in laws have 13 birds. One of which is an african grey. They breed all there birds and sell and trade them. Basically my BIL told me until you establish dominance over said bird, you get to pay in blood every time you try to hold it. Once the bird knowd its place the biting will stop. If it doesn't stop thenyou grill it up and serve it up.

My friend has one. I was at her house one night sitting on her computer(the bird lives in the computer room) it was about 2am and the bird said clear as day "Turn off the computer I wanna go to sleep"

It would also call for the cat... lol... "kitty kitty kitty"

I about fell over.

An old biker I used to know had one. Those birds are smarter than 47% of the population.

Yeah I heard they are super smart birds. I just had him out I put a movie in for the kids and locked myself in the room with the bird opened up the cage and said "up up" and it climbed right up on my hand. If he ever bites me or the kids he will become BBQ lol. I'm waiting to see though if it doesn't become the most expensive cat food her cat will ever eat though.

Lol the cat isn't like the tiger they are a cross between a domestic cat and Asian leopard do a quick google search there pretty cool. I'm not a cat person but I like this cat he's to smart for his own good though.

Cats are the only thing I hate worse than birds.

Ok, I Googled it.  That thing is a miniature tiger.  I don't trust cats.  I sure wouldn't trust that thing.  But, it would be cool to see an exotic house cat eat an intelligent bird.

Had a few birds, loved them. Very time consuming. Grey's need a lot of interaction, if he/she does not get that, watch out for self mutilation. They will start to pull plumage and that's not good. This is not your bird but I'm sure you will probably see a lot of it, just things to be aware of. I always wanted one, just don't have the proper amount of time to devote to one! Should be good with the kids and I guarantee its smart enough to stay away from the cat or even better beat the cats arse!! The Lori I had would get all puffed up and walk right up to the cats and start talking like Yosemite Sam, uses to freak the cats out so bad! Like he was cursing under his breath and swagger around, funny lil bird!!

Yes, a beautiful blue and gold macaw; a military macaw; and we raised Amazons and cockatiels.

No African grey's as they can be screamers.

Hook bills like to eat wood so don't let the bird out unsupervised or it will eat your furniture, doors, moldings, windows, etc.  I know from experience.

Parrots also will like guys or gals. It is not unusual for the bird to bond with a guy or a gal and attack the other sex, like your wife and daughter if it bonds with you.

Good luck with the bird.

All animals tend to bond with me for some reason. The bird has had all female owners and so far I'm the only one it's letting touch if and carry it around. She hates it when we were married and dating her dog she had before mr came right to me and was more attached to me and every animal we've had since idk even wild animals tend to not mind me iv walked right up to wild rabbits, deer, hawks, squirrels ect.

My parents got a Grey for basically the price of the cage. It had plucked all its feathers out and wouldnt let any person touch it. Had a cone put on it and kept it out of its cage as much as possible and over time it became tame and very beautifull bird. Year later we got a Yellow Amazon and it was friendly from the start. Well that was 25 years ago and they are still going strong.

My Mom had a parakeet when I was small.  That was enough for me.
