How would you compare the Bass pro pro qualifier & the Abu Garcia revo s ? I'm looking at both of them and started to lean towards the pq because of the $. But I always seem to go back to the revo. Suggestions ?

I have no idea of the price difference or, for that matter, what either of them costs. But it's obvious you prefer the Revo, so I'd get that if you can afford it.

You can also take the price difference and divide it by the number of years of service you expect from the Revo. That's the annual cost of the premium you'd pay for the Revo and maybe that'll help you decide.

I just think if you can afford the Revo and buy the BPS you'll be constantly second-guessing yourself.

The revo is $129 regularly and $100 with the trade in. The pro qualifier is $100 regularly and $65 with discount and trade in. Pq has DBS and revo is centrifugal.

Well, I do similar things when it comes to getting new fishing gear. However, I get the cheaper reel so I can spend the rest on tackle. One thing you might find helpful from my experience is that I always wished I would have gotten that (a tad more) expensive reel, -just to ease my mind & curiosity of quality- and forgot the tackle. So get the Revo!

On another note.. I'm assuming it's a Revo S, right? if it is or not, I have a Revo S. It's a good reel, it's lasted a good while without cleaning it for a year or two.  -not a fan of the centrifugal braking system though.

Revo s is what I would purchase. I have a few of them and I like them more than my shimano bantam curado, and I've always been a shimano guy but for the money the revo s is amazing!

I have both and can give a fair assessment of them.

The PQ is a dang good reel. Built like a tank and keeps going and going. There is a thread here http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/112219-bps-pro-qualifier-bc-reel-%E2%80%93-5-year-challenge-%E2%80%93-time-to-pay-the-piper/ that breaks it down and one heck of a test on it. The Pro Qualifier has been around the block for some time and has proven its self. Bass Pro changes these up from time to time and from what I'm told, this model has been the same for the longest time. The PQ has a dual breaking system. You can fine tune it to whatever situation you need. For me, I don't use the mag breaks at all so its a mute point. The PQ is a great price. Its going to be on sale on the 22nd of this month too. The down side of the PQ is the weight. Its kinda heavy. You can't go wrong with it. It comes in 4 different gear rations for any situation.

The Revo S (Gen 3) is a whole different sexy little hunny. For the price point, its the lightest reel out there. I love mine. Very smooth and sits super low. The Revo S has a 6 pin breaking system like the PQ, but does not have any mag breaks. For me, that's a plus. The Revo S has only been around for about 7 months now so its still proving its self. Only time will tell. The S only comes in one gear ratio, so its kinda technique specific.

Hope this helps.

Darn! That would have been epic to go and see an event like that. :/

I will sing the praises of the new Revo S from the mountain tops. That reel is flat out amazing. If the masses only knew how awesome it was, it would be the top seller in the Revo line. Love mine paired up with a 7" MH veritas micro guide. I really wish Abu would make it in a 7:1:1 though.

Dang . You really summed it up. I just don't want to second guess myself like somebody mention earlier. I can always get the revo later. But at full price. But the price for the pq is fantastic.

If your not in a hurry put a want add in the flea market looking for a PQ or check it for one for sale. They come up from time to time. I bought my slow rolling 4.7:1 off a member here for 45 shipped.

Give it some time and the new Revo S's will start popping up too.

With the price on the PQ coming up at BPS, I'd get the PQ. I still don't understand how that nice of a reel can be had for 70-80 dollars in the store.

Once you hit the $100.00 and above mark, there are so many good reel choices, you would almost have to be trying to get a bad one.

I am not brand loyal. I have PQ's, Johnny Morris sig. series, Lews, Shimano, {Chronarchs and Curados}. And as far as second guessing yourself, you can get crazy with that. PQ, no Revo S, no, Revo SX, no, STX, no, Premier...... and on and on. There's no end to that. Look em' over, make a decision, pick your reel, and go fishing.

$65 if you do the trade in. An even better deal.

I started buying Extremes a year before the current model Pro Qualifier came out. I bought 5 in all. Originally I figured the PQ reels would be no better than my older Extremes since the basic design was nearly identical except for the dual brakes. I had a couple of Extremes that, for no reason I could see, got rough feeling in the retrieve. I figured it was the gears. One was literally brand new still. I thought the Pro Qualifier would be just an ok reel at best based on this.

But I have 3 other Extremes that are still smooth after all that time, and two of those have been used a good bit and are now 4 years old with no problems. One of the two original Extremes that got rough was about three years old and had moderate use before it began to show rough signs. Maybe I just got one bad one out of five, and another one that didn't remain like new over time like I wanted. It drove me nuts for awhile though and I never tried a Pro Qualifier because of that. But after about five years of the current model PQ being out and reading tons of good stuff about it, along with Goose's ongoing five year review of the reel (where what he's doing to it, I would consider almost insane abuse compared to my own use of reels), I am going to try one now, probably get 2 actually. It gets rave reviews from just about everybody that tries one.

I disagree (respectfully) with rock chalk. The revo s isn't even close to the lightest reel in it's price range (carbonlite is 5.9 vs revo 7.6). It doesn't have mag breaks which could be a very big deal. The pq is tried and true and giving you more at about 2/3 the price. It would appear an easy decision if functionality and value outweigh the "gotta have it factor".

Weight isn't a factor . I'm picking up an ambassaduer for salmon and bigger fish . I have $160 for a reel , bu ti would like to spend less so i can have more money for tackle .
