The Rooster Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I got my flyer in the mail today for the spring classic sale. Just a heads up, they're on sale for $80 but with the reel trade in program you can get them for $65. Looks like I'm finally going to be trying one of them. 1 Quote

Super User Darren. Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 That's a sweet deal! Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 Have a trip planned, it's two hours to nearest BPS but worth the drive Quote
NWI-Bassin' Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I'm gunna grab one of those instead of a revo s. it can wait till my birthday Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 12, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 12, 2013 The JM Sig Reel is 115.00 w/ trade in! THAT my friends is worth more than a look. Â Mike Quote
KentuckyDave Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 What other deals were in the ad? Quote
The Rooster Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 If someone is just getting started or wants a second rod, maybe a backup rod, or isn't sure if baitcasting is for them and wants to save some on their first purchase, then the new Bionic casting combo for $70 could be worth a look. The reel is an aluminum frame, and 6 bearings. Don't know how good the rod is but usually you don't get a baitcaster with an aluminum frame for that price (other than the PQ deal going on that is). The Rooster Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 I'm trading in an old Extreme that I really never used beyond a few trips since the gears showed signs of roughness that I was never able to solve with cleanings and lubings. Better to get a reel I'll use instead of having one virtually new in the box here I don't use at all. BPS said years ago right after I bought it that they'd make it good but the design of the reel changed and I'd be sent the newer version with the swept handle that I didn't want since my others I had at the time were all straight. I didn't want one that didn't match the rest, but I was never able to get over that rough feeling and just stopped using that one. I still have three others that I do use. That's how I ended up with a nearly mint reel to trade in. So I'm just giving it back to them, minus two handle bearings I added to one of the others to make that one a nine bearing reel. I put the bushings in the handle of the one I'm trading in which just makes it a 5 bearing model, the same as it was when first released, and it works just fine that way so no harm done. My only trouble is I have no idea what ratio PQ to get but thankfully I could use whatever one I end up with regardless so I guess I really only need to worry about them being in stock. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted February 13, 2013 Super User Posted February 13, 2013 Rooster, the sale starts the 22nd right? The Bionic Blade combo for 80 bucks seems like a steal, the new design looks great, on paper it appears as good as the PQ, can't wait to get my hands on one to see how good it really is. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Yeah it's on the 22nd. That bionic combo is $70. Also saw they have a Nitro baitcast reel and the Enigma baitcast reel, both of which are advertised with aluminum frames, both on sale for $50. Reels only. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 13, 2013 Super User Posted February 13, 2013 Yeah it's on the 22nd. That bionic combo is $70. Also saw they have a Nitro baitcast reel and the Enigma baitcast reel, both of which are advertised with aluminum frames, both on sale for $50. Reels only. And one day only. The Enigma is total crap. The PQ is a great buy at that price, as is the Sig. Frankly, however, the PQ is a better reel. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted February 13, 2013 Super User Posted February 13, 2013 Yes definitely, it is a great deal. The PQ is my 2nd favorite reel behind the Curados/Citicas I have. I would've love to take advantage, but unless I can come up with my own spending mullah my fishing tackle stuff will have to wait until the season starts in late June. Quote
grizzly1654 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Do they take any reel in trade regardless of condition? I have a 15 year old quantum energy spinning reel that works good but looks like crap. I looked on the bass pro website but didnt find anything on the trade in. I wouldnt mind adding another PQ to my collection. Quote
Flukeman Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Does not matter what the reel looks like, but they are supposed to work because they get donated to kids groups. Quote
jhoffman Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 If I drive there and they are sold out of lefty bionic combos they are either going to order me one or I will spend my $25 and never spend another dime at bass pro. I cant make it till the 7th so I hope they dont give me a hard time. In the last 24 months ive spent about $5000 in bass pro and they better not burn me here or ill be exclusively shopping with TW for tackle. Quote
craww Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 So your gonna show up after a sale has expired and complain and make a stink about getting "burned" if they no longer have the sale item? LOL. I do not miss working retail one bit. 2 Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted February 13, 2013 Super User Posted February 13, 2013 I believe the requirement is that the reel be in working condition. Don't remember anything about cosmetics Quote
The Rooster Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 That's hilarious. I worked retail for 12 years and I don't miss it one bit. People would complain about any little tiny thing they could even if they knew they were wrong. Quote

If that's the biggest gripe ya got in life, consider yourself lucky. You obviously are there often enough to spend a bunch of money there, so just get a rain check...besides, they will be happy to sell their products to the rest of us rational people Quote
jhoffman Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Im not there enough, thats the whole point. Its 1.5 hour drive one direction and I am going to take a day off work to get this deal. I take it you have never had an issue with going to bass pro or cabelas and them not having the product you want to see in person. If I wanted to buy the item site unseen I would order it online. herein lies another problem, this will be an instore only deal likely. Â Call yourself rational, Id say Im rational in that I expect if youre going to advertise an item that will only be available in store with people traveling to get it you should probably have it. Bait and swtich sitations dont please me if that makes me irrational than I am ok with it. Its certainly not the only thing I am after on this trip. I am after electronics as well as other things. My luck they will be sold out of those too. Its called planning. Â If I were a manager and I knew my store was going to promote the biggest event of the year, I would order double what I thought I might actually sell and then send back what I dont need. Thats called good management. You can read all over the internet sitatuions where bass pro and cabelas did things like advertise this giant sale that people will want only for them to get there and be told they only had two of them. Two of them and it was in your flier... you need fired. Â I really dont understand this reel trade in either. Trade in a reel you could likely make $50 on by selling it online for a $10 credit? I guess theres a sucker born every day. The only way thats even remotely a good deal is if the reel in question was junk to begin with. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 13, 2013 Author Posted February 13, 2013 Hmm.....whatever. Anybody ever think of buying a $8 Zebco 202 and trading it in for the credit and thereby profiting the difference if you otherwise don't have a reel to trade in? I just might want two of these reels but I only have one to trade. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted February 13, 2013 Super User Posted February 13, 2013 Wow man. Listen to yourself. You want them to bend over backwards for you. The reel trade is nothing about value. You can buy a new 5 dollar zebco and trade it in on a 200 dollar reel and get 30-40 bucks. It's the time to get rid of stuff you don't use. I'm willing to bet 3/4 of the people bringing the stuff in to trade don't know how to or have no intention on selling online. You forget the the local managers don't make the orders. Some yard bird in a cozy office makes the orders based on that local stores sales. My local BP stocks more catfish crap based on more cat fishing in Oklahoma. So your implying Bass Pro is using bait and switch on their customers? There's a first Quote

Do you realize there guys who walk in there and drop $40,000 on a boat, and then hit the fishing dept for who knows how much. Kinda makes $5000 almost seem insignificant..... perspective son perspective...lol.  Hootie Quote
