Local Lake

How many keep going to a local lake, when you keep failing to catch any from the lake?  I know there is nice bass in the lake. It is the only good size lake that is close to me.  I can be on it in 10 mins, so I can fish it a lot after work. Where as I can't go to the bigger lakes till the weekend.

Well, if I know there there are bass in it, I will fish it until I figure it out. The convenience factor makes it that much easier.

If you know the fish are there, then keep at it.  Im usually fishing early in the mornings before work and gas is crazy expensive so the closer the better for me.  The lake I go to most of the time I usually only catch 2-5 fish (fishing from the bank) in a couple hours and sometimes get skunked but hey, its only 10 minutes away.  On my days off Ill try and hit some other bigger bodies of water to switch things up a bit.

My closest lake is under 50 acres but I know there's plenty fish in it. It's my go-to spot when I don't feel like towing the boat or dealing with huge crowds or Mother Nature. I've worked on plenty of my bass fishing on the lake and will def keep going back. 

 

In fact, I was just there today but walking my dog and no fishing.

Most of our local lakes are tough, some of the only lakes that I still occasionally blank on. It's more and more rare for that to happen and it's taken a couple years to get confidence on them but it's been worth it because they have nice fish, there's just a lot of pressure so they get pretty picky at times. One of the power plant lakes I fish during the winter is at times the toughest lake I've ever fished. It's stocked with Florida strain largemouth along with northern strain and the cold wintertime weather in Kansas does not mix well with Florida strain largemouth. It has some of the biggest bass in the state so I keep going back, but it still beats me more than any lake I fish regularly.

I fish Douglas Lake in TN. Even some of the pros had trouble fishing here last May. The water levels are up and down, up and down. TVA just won't leave it alone for 5 seconds, which really screws up the fishing here. That being said, I finally found my groove when fishing here. It just took time. I still get skunked here and there, but it helps me adapt and try new things to get the bite on.

My local lake is 5 min. away and is 2000 acres and even with the droughts we have I can usually still get my boat on it. It has good LM bass, crappie, catfish and white/sand bass populations.

Unlike natural lakes, in drought conditions our lakes can drop 3 to 100 ft. Granted the greatest drops are in larger/deeper reservoirs.  Lake Arlington (my local) is down a little over 5' but we had some good rainfall yesterday so hopefully it came up a little. Still a great lake with some big Florida's in it. I think the lake record is just over 14 lbs.
