Super User Hooligan Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 Take it in to a local store like BPS if you have one. They'll exchange it over the counter. Shimano rods are limited lifetime OTC.... SOME Shimano rods are limited lifetime. Not all. The Compre, in new series, are covered under that warranty. Cabela's will not honor that warranty, nor will Dicks, or Scheels. Bass Pro Shops is about the only one that will, as far as national retailers. Many smaller shops will also honor Shimano's warranty, as will Shimano directly. 1 Quote

Super User Darren. Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 Compre is one year no questions. Mine said limited lifetime, do you mean the no ?s for the first year only? Talked to a dealer/rod builder who sells Compres and he told me lifetime replacement... BPS fishing managers in Hampton and Richmond told me lifetime OTC... Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 Straight from the Compre family of rods at Shimano: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/rods/freshwater/Compre_Family.html "This series was created for the Hard Core Bass, Musky, and Inshore Fisherman. Shimano Created technique specific rods for a wide variety of the best fishing techniques used in today’s fishing environment. The Bass rods cover Worm, Jig, Drop Shot, Crankbait, Spinnerbait, Top Water, and Flip Pitch Punch Rods. The Musky Rods cover everything from small bait applications up to the Giant Sized baits used today. Inshore rods created for Reds, Trout, Snook, and Tarpon. All Compre rods are built out of IM-9 Graphite and come with Shimano Custom Reel seats and Fuji Guides. All backed by Shimano limited lifetime over the counter replacement policy." Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 BPS covers the Shimano 1 year OTC replacement no questions asked, after that you need an xtended warranty. Not for nothing, but Shimano has been very good to me for broken rods, no questions of when I purchased them. Quote

That said, they are obligated by the dealer agreement with Shimano to exchange Shimano rods over the counter. You are not required to purchase any extended warranty. Period. No ifs, ands, or buts. In 99% of the cases, no question will be asked of the limited lifetime warranty, and it will be no issue. Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted February 13, 2013 Super User Posted February 13, 2013 One year utterly and completely ruins the advantage of a limited lifetime over the counter warranty. I know, rather intimately, that Bass Pro Shops is one of the only national vendors that honors that over the counter policy. They even PUBLISH signage for it. They have dictated guidelines regarding who's rods they will warrant in store and who must deal with the manufacturer. They're wrong, or you are. Regardless, Bass Pro Shops will honor the lifetime warranty at every store I've been in, and that's a lot of them. Almost all except the New England/New York stores. Quote
