No, that's not what is being talked about here.

We're not talking about the same thing then.  The bait in question won't be available for orders (to the wholesale or distribution level) until late February.  I know there are fewer than 10 people at the organization I deal with that have seen it.

Hooligan, No we are talking about the same thing... I can PM to get into alot more details.. I know a certain distributor that placed orders for it at the end of January when the Reps displayed it at the show.. They were very strict as to no pictures to be taken. And no dealers were allowed.  I know of another distributor who has just in the last few days began pre ordering it for their accounts.

Well, got to see a pic of the bait.

Interesting looking. Didnt get to see the action but I was told that it's pretty cool. Supposedly gonna do some cool stuff in the water.

If the action is what they say, the name fits the bait pretty well too.

I love Rapala baits, the DT and DT Fat series along with the DT Flats have done well for me. My fishing partner hated them for breaking and I was wondering why his were busting until we were on a crank bite one day and I watched in horror as he got some weeds on the back hook and proceeded to slam the lure straight into the water 3 or 4 times to get rid of the weeds. I looked at him and said, yep, I can see how you are breaking baits, BTW 2 hours later the the Lucky Craft BDS he was throwing shattered, the plastic took longer to bust than the balsa but it broke and I said you better not complain, they weren't made to take that kind of abuse.

Here's an idea: Release the lure exclusively to BassResource.com members for testing and review!

So what do we know from this thread? It's a deep diver, that digs very deep very quickly.  At one point in its evolution it might have been modular or in a couple of pieces.  The bill design is revolutionary, perhaps 'cupped' and may be adjustable.  It swims erratically underwater. This could mean it walks under water, hunts, rolls or changes direction, but whether it does this on its own or the fisherman has to impart the action on the bait is unclear.  It is also fairly certain that the classic winner will no doubt say this new lure was a big part of his pattern to win thus insuring a mad rush for this bait...

So, any guesses?  A bill that somehow dynamically changes configuration/position as you swim it?  A deep diving suspending lure with a bill that allows it to hunt underwater?  A spring loaded bill that changes the lures direction depending on how much pressure is applied with the line?  DAGNABIT. Still dying to know what the he11 this thing is!!!

Hooligan's post about the bait is spot on from what I know.

The name's got "Rap" at the end much like their other recent stuff. ;)

Finally got some concrete info... It's called the Scatter Rap Shad. Bass Pro in MD has a whole empty display ready to be filled. $8.99 there, so a dollar or two cheaper at Walmart. Cupped bill that facilitates underwater hunt action... As I said, the Classic winner will no doubt be throwing one to drive up demand....

All this hype for yet another deep diving crank?  Ok, it's got a unique hunitng action, but is it really that much better to deserve this hype?  I'll probably end up buying a few however.

Its the "Scatter Rap" and is being produced in 4 Variations: Crank, Minnow, Shad, and Countdown... About 15 color patterns in each model.. Other than the Countdown they all have diving depths ranging from 5-8 feet. Like I said in an earlier post.. I saw the minnow in action in a pool at a distributor show.. It is a really wild acting bait.. Hooloigans post from earlier has a very accurate description on the bill and its actions.. Good price point as well..

Scatter Rap? Rapala must have come up with this idea when the lips of their DT's broke off. Just kind of scatters back to the boat with another $8.00 bait down the drain. Very disappointed with Rapala so I really don't care what they come out with. You would have thought they would have corrected the issue with the DT's but apparently they don't care about their customers. They have figured out the new business model in this country: Sell all you can and screw the customers.

You can take a Norman crank and run over it with a tank. I don't want to have to baby a crankbait because the lips are made of some of the weakest plastic known to man. This was a known problem that was never fixed. And if you aren't bangin' your cranks against the bottom, rocks and stumps, you are missing a lot of fish.

Wow!

Return the lures to the retailer or directly to the company. I exchange EVERY lure that breaks

regardless of the age and have NEVER been denied. Most companies send back two or three

additional lures.

Here is the current picture of Rapala, new mfg. facilities moving from China to Batam Island Indonesia, strong growth in Russia and the new Scatter Rap Family leading their short term outlook. Very good read for those who may be interested. ......http://finance.yahoo.com/news/rapala-vmc-corporations-annual-accounts-073201000.html

Darn, this lure sounds so great that Morgan Freeman better do the voice-over for the commercials.

Morgan Freeman...If its that good its time to cut a check to the king of the voice over jungle...JAMES EARL JONES aka MOOSTAFAA!!!

You're going to compare the King of the Jungle to God Himself? Sacrilege.

That said, James Earl Jones would kill in that commercial. Hell, he almost had me wanting to try and play pro baseball just because of his

in Field of Dreams.

UPDATE: Damnit, I just watched it again and for some reason my eyes are nearly leaking...must be dusty in this room.

Ott posted a 5 pounder on his Facebook. It didn't show the bait or crank he caught it on.  The others were on a shad rap and a jig.  Things that make ya go hmmmmmm.

The Dick's booth will be carrying them at the Classic expo.  I guess I'll have to buy a couple to try out.  If I had an unhealthy addiction it would be cranks!

I've broke 3 bills off the DT series, 1 off of a DT 4, 1 off of a Rapala X-Rap that I hit a rock while fishing in 34 degree water, and 1 off of a shad rap years ago and Rapala replaced every one. This isn't a lot considering that I really beat up a DT Thug off rip rap every season since they've been released and the reason I keep using them is they don't get hung in the rip rap, the fish have been killing them, and I still have yet to break one. I will agree the Normans are built like tanks but I also have to run them in clear water out of the box because every single one on my Middle N cranks had to be tuned, I don't mind as they are fish catchers too but Rapal has always been good with CS to me. 3 broken baits and 3 baits replaced with the same model, size, and color.

Interesting, but tbh, I am a little dissapointed...I was expecting something more radical...but I am definitely going to get myself some of these.

And on the other subject of discussion, I haven't broken a Rapala lip.

Yeah, I'm not saying that they won't replace them, just the fact that they have known about this problem for a long time and haven't tried to fix the issue by making the bills stronger. They could do it without it effecting the way the bait runs.
