The 10xd fills a small niche, while this new thing covers a much wider range of applications. It's not just one lure. It may be coming out as one, and that's how it will be introduced, but it will be used for waaay more than that.

Is this a modular based bait?  One that the sections can be swapped out for another?

Aaah... we have a thinker. The original concept and design, yes. Turns out, that's not the best way to make money for a company, so it is being incorporated into a line of cranks.

Hope there is a bunch of R&D behind it.

When you say "modular," I hear falling apart on the retrieve.

Nothing's falling apart. There was a working prototype a year ago, but like you said, it takes time for R&D and copyrights. Oh yeah, and filming it in action!

I can just see a modular bait... the fish jumps and you get back half a crankbait. Man people would be BURNED then lol.

The bait they're coming out with is a new style of crankbait.  Similar in form to a shad bodied bait, or a shad rap.  The difference is the way the bill is formed.  It's a cup, or accentuated U shaped bill, if you will.  It's hard to describe it exactly.  And I don't currently have pictures.  What's unique is that the lure readily changes direction and speed.  It's a very, very unique design, but it isn't game changing; yet.  I've not fished the release version.  It's a pretty cool bait...

It is close to this but is not this exactly. I feel that it will be a huge game changer in certain conditions if it preforms like I was told it would.

I thought about this idea when I purchased my first jointed bait, I was just a kid then and life took me another direction so I never put idea to paper..  This school of thought can change many baits we use today, I don't think connectivity will be an issue just take the concept of the latch for a vehicle and apply similar technologies to a bait and it wont break..

But the question is.....will it catch fish?

almost anything will catch a bass. one of the guys here did a test a few years ago and was catching bass on a shoestring

They can trade for every DT6 they want, that bat is nothing compared to this.  There's only one or two pros that have the bait.

Ott had a heavy, heavy influence in the design of this bait.  My money is on him fishing it extensively at the Classic if the correct conditions are introduced.

Someone posted that it's similar to a sub-surface Triggerfish.  Not really.  Very different in the way it works.  The dive angle is huge, and the speed, as well as the movement.  It's very, ,very different.

Sweet! I need to change my fantasy pick! lol

a lot of dogs are barking, but none of these dogs are biting. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Does it make it back to the boat in one piece if it hits a rock during the retrieve? That's my biggest hang up with Rapala cranks, a 7-10 dollar bait should not fall apart that easily.

I gave away quite a few DTs this year after I had several last season return to me as only a bill.

There are a lot of people that are waiting to get their hands on them again, myself included.

Will it catch fish without falling apart?  Yes, it does.

Do I have pictures?  No, I already said as much.

It's not as deep as a 10XD in the production models I've seen.  There is talk af making deep cranks that will compete with it in this same style of bait.

I'm no longer actively involved with R&D with Rapala and that's the only reason I'm talking about it now.

Remember the old Heddon beer can lure LOL

Maybe this new bait has an adjustable diving lip?

Only problem I have ever had with any Rapala products was the plastic bill breaking when I threw it into riprap. Rock vs. plastic = Rock 1 Plastic 0.

Totally my fault.

I use the #5 and #7 Shad Raps and they seem to work everywhere and have all but two of Ike's DT line. Will throw those this spring and summer.

Sorry to hear that the company has poor customer service.

Not sure if its too much of a secret... Many big box retailers already have received info on it... Distributors placed orders on it already and are beginning to take orders on it for their accounts... Just the general public has not seen it... :eyebrows:

I am the first to give credit where it is do- If i believe that it will help anglers catch more fish-GOOD FOR RAPALA..They deserve it.

As a designer -I applaude innovation. It makes us who we are- Be different-Think outside the pond-

But i will say -I am a critic-I know from being under the water and on top of it-the triggering qualities of a bait. They often go by fish unnoticed or undetected-the bas dont give a hoot what the humans say works,

I've seen this demonstrated at a recent distributor show in a hotel pool... It is quite impressive... And after reviewing the press release Im glad to see they are offering it a few styles and not limiting it to one line... The only question left for me is will it catch fish... With the money Rapala is dumping into marketing... plus the years of R & D, as well as the money they fronted for production, and finally the sheer extent they are gonna display this in many retailers.. It has to be successful.. or they will be out alot of money.. and without a doubt when I say alot of money I bet 7 figures...

We're not talking about the same thing then.  The bait in question won't be available for orders (to the wholesale or distribution level) until late February.  I know there are fewer than 10 people at the organization I deal with that have seen it.
