dday07 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 i have a number of types of spinners(boo-yah,strike king, war eagle etc.)i tried some of those today with no luck, then i put on these 1.00 spinners that wal-mart sells and BAM,5 fish in about 35 mins.not including the 4lb striper i caught with one.that's one cool thing about fish, they don't look at the sales tag! Chris Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 You know that cheap white spinnerbait with the blue head single colo blade? I can't begin to tell you how many bass I have caught on that bait over the years. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 My partner used to school me with a cheap spinnerbait that Northland used to make. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 3, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 3, 2010 Ya, but would you buy a Clay Aiken worm? NOT! ;D Quote
Bamajoker Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Ya, but would you buy a Clay Aiken worm?NOT! ;D naaa it would be way to small Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I would ask the question, what was different about the spinnerbait other than it cost a buck ? Different color?, weight ?, blade size ?, blade combination?, length of skirt ? and so on. Something triggered those fish unless they can read a price tag. Tomorrow just might bring redemption to one of the "name" baits. Happy to hear you figured them out and had a good day ! Catching always makes fishing more fun. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 3, 2010 Super User Posted April 3, 2010 My partner used to school me with a cheap spinnerbait that Northland used to make. Northland is still my favorite spinner (Reed Runners), but I still get their cheap ones from places like Fleet Farm for river fishing or give aways. Quote
basscrusher Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 a friend of mine took big fish on our Potomac tournament 2 yrs ago throwing a $1 Walmart spinnerbait (it was a little over 6 lbs). Quote
BassThumb Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Cheap spinnerbaits work just fine as long as they have a sharp hook and good swivel. Quote
weekendfisherman Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 My best fishing day ever was in the spring two years ago during the spawn,...on a cheap spinner bait from Wally world...It was a translucent crystal color. I pulled bass after bass from the water. I lost the lure when my line broke on a large bass, (I was enjoying the catch and forgot to check the knot) and changed to multiple other lures, but never caught another fish that day....Go figure?
