So I'm going to be headed to Tulsa for the Classic here in a couple weeks and would like to get in a little fishing while I'm down there. Where would be a good place to get in some fishing before we head to all the festivities at the Expo and weigh in on Friday? There's lots of lakes pretty close by it seems like and I have no knowledge or experience about any of them. Would like to keep it fairly close (around 30 minutes one way). Mainly looking for bass but would also be up for some striper/white bass/wiper fishing if it's a better bite than the bass would be. Was looking at Skiatook or Keystone as possible destinations, any thoughts? Thanks for any help.

Lake Ft. Gibson meets your criteria.  It's a good bass lake and is about thirty minutes away.

Skiatook is tough no matter what time of year for bass.  You have to find the sunken brush piles.  Hybrids are usually good on live bait.  Keystone is a good lake.

^^^^ Just like Long Mike said Ft. Gibson meets your criteria.  I would go there for bass over Skiatook or Keystone.

Since we're coming down from the north would Hudson be any good this time of year? I've heard it's a really good lake and wouldn't be too far out of the way for us and since it isn't a huge lake it may be a little easier to find fish I'd think.

Take Memorial south about 20 minutes to Leonard and fish Bixhoma lake. Can be a challenging lake to fish but I've caught a couple toads in the timber.

I actually looked at that lake as an option but it seems like getting the permit may be a bit of a hassle?? I'm not afraid to get skunked fishing for big fish and I've seen a couple pictures of some monsters from that little lake.

I dont remember the permits being a hassle  to get.  Just drop by that water treatment office at the top of the hill on your way  the lake.  Pay a few bucks and go fishin.   Unless they've changed it, it's not a big deal to fish there.

Last time I went to Bixhoma, I purchased the permit at the police station. If you go that route stop by there first because it's a nice little trip back if the water treatment pkace is closed. As far as Hudson, it is a good lake. I personally haven't fished it much.

Where'd you wind up going?

We went to Bixhoma since it was small and close to the BOK Center. It was almost 20 degrees when we got to the ramp and the 10mph wind was sharp as a knife coming across the water. It started out good when I dropped the trolling motor not only was the prop frozen in place but once it broke loose it wouldn't work. Cleaned and redid a couple connections and all the battery connections and terminals and finally got it going after about in hour. We tossed an A-rig for a couple hours and I had one for sure bite but didn't hook up. We got tired of flinging that clumsy thing around so we started tossing jerkbaits and jigs and fishing them really slowly in the 43 degree water. Took awhile but my buddy finally caught a 15 incher on a chartreuse shad 78 pointer. About 30 minutes later I had a big fish on just long enough to feel a lot of weight and then it came loose. Buddy caught another 15 incher on a foxy shad colored Erratic shad and we had to get to the expo.
