Super User *Hootie Posted February 11, 2013 Super User Posted February 11, 2013 My guess would be yes, for sure on the Big O. Unless they are reproductions. Fred Young is the Big O man. The original. I wouldn't remove them from their packaging. Hootie Quote

Super User *Hootie Posted February 11, 2013 Super User Posted February 11, 2013 I'm just checking on ebay, and it seems they, in the package, are going for about $5.00 to $10.00. Hootie Quote
Jig Meister Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I just purchased 2 chug bugs from gander Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 11, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 11, 2013 Those Big O's appear to be the reproduction they made for Cabela's a few years back. I was working at the one in KC when they started making them again. We sold tons of them but they proved to be fragile and not produce very well. Not sure what the value would be now but I believe they sold for about $10 then. Quote
ghost Posted February 11, 2013 Author Posted February 11, 2013 so of they are repo's, thr big o's, i guess i could use them to fish? or should i sit tight a bit longer see if they may be worth something later? Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 11, 2013 Super User Posted February 11, 2013 The package has a hanger for pegs and the hooks look black nickel. The original Fred Young Big O's came in egg cartons, have bronze hooks and sell for over $100 each. The chug bug is a current production lure. Tom Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 11, 2013 Super User Posted February 11, 2013 Here is a hint: if the package states "The Original", it isn't. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 The big O's pictured are decent lures, but they are mass produced reproductions. The back of the package states: "This Rendition of Fred Young's Original Big O is just as much of a fish catcher as those early models. The colors and designs of these lures are ones originated by Fred Young himself..." This line came out in 2004 (also stated on the back of the package), the original Big O's carved by Fred Young came out in 1967. I bought a bunch from the bargain cave at Cabellas a couple of years ago. They work, and I have not had any durability problems. You can still find them on Ebay, but shop around for a good price. Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 I wonder if my OG Chug Bugs are worth any money? They are slightly used though. And by slightly used I mean beat to death by bass, lol. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted February 12, 2013 Super User Posted February 12, 2013 Those are not the real deal. Quote
Big Bassman Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 My original Big O's were stolen back in the 80's by kids that probably never knew they were of value. I had left a small tackle box of test lures in my boat by accident overnight. The rest is history. Had many original baits in this box, Heddon, Bomber, Bagley, and others less known including regional makers. Sure wish I had them back for my collection. That little box was packed! To this day I don't know why I didn't have those baits put safely away? When Big O's hit the bass fishing scene they were nothing but gold and Fred Young made them to order. The repos you have ghost are really cool though, I would keep them if I were you, they are a fun thing to have. I still have some of the old plastic ones. Quote
