Vmc Hooks, What Do You Think Of Them?

What do you guys think of VMC hooks? I love Trokar but they can get kind of expensive. And VMC are available a lot of places I shop so was considering them.

I've used them, both trebles and offset worm hooks. Never had a problem.

I have only used the trebles, and my thinking is some nice name brand cranks use them standard, so they must be a good quality product.

I become more and more of a fan every season.  I avoided Trokar because of the price and fished Gamakatsu's esclusively.  I saw a sale for VMC's so decided to try them and now they are my go-to.  Awesome hooks.  Never had a problem with them.

I have only used the trebles so far, but have a pack of drop shot hooks ready to go.  Have not been able to find there new Ike hooks.

I consider them OK.  Not as good as some Japanese brands like Gamakatsu, which have harder tempering and keep sharper longer.  But the highest quality VMC's are worth their moderate price.  The older VMC short shank trebles were very soft tempered, didn't stay sharp without touch-ups, and bent out easily.  Later VMC treble styles are better.

Vmc was bought out by Rapala a few years back. All current Rapala baits use vmc hooks. Better than average in my opinion. I don't replace them until worn.

I've only used the trebles and they are good.  I replace all stock hooks (except Rapalas and Storms for obvious reasons) with them with a few exceptions for the Mustad KVD Elite Series Triple Grips on a few specific crankbait series.

One of the best hooks out there!! I have fished VMC's for along time and I never had a problem with them. Up here in Wi. they were hard to find for awhale but are showing up again in the Gander stores.i hope Bass Pro starts to carry all the VMC hooks.

I'll be moving back to VMC almost exclusively this year.  They're being made at the French facility again, they're built well, and they're reasonably priced.

I use their trebles exclusively and love that they're offering a short shank #3 now, that's what is on most of my cranks and traps after this winter. I  just bought a couple packs of the "Ike approved" HD flipping hooks but haven't had a chance to use them yet. They're very sharp and seem like they'll hold up under pressure.

All those H2O cranks I bought from academy have VMC hooks. That was a big selling point for me.

I love these hooks. A few months ago I was restocking on hooks and was going for gami's but I saw the VMC's and thought they looked fine. Turns out they are semi-sharp and don't bend. I score at Cabelas with the price compared to you guys too. 13 pack is like 4.50 or something cheap.

I love the Sure set treble hooks but they have become very difficult to find the last few years.  I haven't used the single hooks yet but it depends on how I'm fishing.

I think you are spot on. To me they are inconsistent & overated. When I buy Rapala cranks they are usually sharp half the time, I do the fingernail test and they don't stick like the sharper hooks on the market do. Even when touching them up I can't get them as sharp as the Gamakatsu & Owner hooks that I usually replace them with. 

 

That said the only non treble hook that I have used were the spin shots and the ones I've used so far have been reasonably sharp though my sample size is limited due to the fact that I don't dropshot very much . Now that Gamakatsu offers a similar design I doubt that I will continue to use them.

VMC are great hooks. Very sharp and they seem to remain sharp during a day of fishing.

 

Tokar are also outstanding products but expensive.

 

Since I throw my baits where I will lose them sooner or later I would not be happy to lose a crankbait with a Tokar set up.

Losing VMCs is bad enough.

 

I am now trying the Gammy EWG Round Bend trebles on my lipless and regular crankbaits and they are very sharp.

Ditto on Dwights comment.  I've used a bunch of them.  Even some of their jig hooks.  Never had an issue.
