I wanna get some Fireline with the diameter of 12 lb test (forgot the actual Lb test) for my baitcaster. It's multipurpose, but I mainly use if for jigs. Is Fireline a good choice for multipurpose fishing?

I'm not a fan of Original Fireline, but Fireline Braid is okay.

I've got some original in 10lb test on one of my spinning rods. Not a fan, but using it because it was expensive enough and isn't "bad" and in need of a respool just yet. Simply prefer regular braid, in the form of Power Pro.

I think he means fireline braid.....not regular fireline based on the compaison to 12lb mono. Regular fireline doesn't advertise a comparable diameter fireline to 12lb mono. Berkley 50lb fireline braid is .014...very close to most 12lb mono. The closest regular fireline comes is in .012 or .015 which is closer to 10lb and14lb mono.

My recommendation is to try a spool of SpirderWire Ultra-Cast... and 50lb listed test braid of any variety (actual breaking strength >80lb) is way over-kill for bass.

Forget Fireline all together and get either Power Pro or Suffix 832.

X2. Too much breakage with fireline. Especially crystal. That stuff is horrendous.

To answer the question directly, Fireline 20 lb would have the diameter of 12 lb mono.  Original Fireline is a FUSED superline in which the fibers are heat fused into a single strand, not woven into a braided superline.  I think Fireline also sells a true braided product.  Personally, I've always liked the original Fireline.  It's tough, handles and casts very well, keeps its color better than braids, and can often be found for a better price.  Would I use it for jig fishing?  Not without a fluorocarbon leader.  The original Fireline is a medium gray color and has always worked fine for me.  The Crystal Fireline I tried delaminated into its many strands, which made it useless so I never tried more than one early spool.   Are there better superlines out there these days?  Many braids have higher test ratings for the same diameter.  And most guys prefer a green to a gray line.  But that doesn't make Original Fireline a bad line.  I have 20 lb Fireline on my C-rig reel and it is still trucking along after 4 yrs of hard use.  It seems to hold its body better than braids, which typically get floppy pretty quick.  That a big plus in handling.

Get Fireline Braid - it's excellent.  50lbs is 12lbs mono diameter.  I have spools and spools of the stuff picked up on sale; much better than Powerpro.  I would say it's more "different" vs. better/worse than Suffix.

I love Fireline up to 20#. After that poundage I liked the properties of Power Pro better. That said I have never had anything break my 20# no matter how knarly the snag the fish is in. For the poundages less than 20 I have always liked it's properties better than Power Pro. I also like the Original better than the Crystal, but they made improvements to the Crystal since first introduced. I also find the Fireline cuts through vegetation that we have here better than the Power Pro. I use the 14# most of the time bass fishing. But I have used the lesser diameters for pan fishing to steelhead fishing.
