1.5 Vs 2.5

Hey guys im sure this question has come up before but which do you have better luck on, the KVD 1.5 or 2.5? I know they both dive to the same depth and the only difference is size/weight. Going to be stocking up on some soon in preparation for spring and was curious. Thanks!

I prefer the 1.5.

I throw the 1.5 on a spinning rod and the 2.5 and 3.0 on a baitcaster. I get the most bites on the 1.5.

Shad spawn in the spring so I prefer the 1.5 and on rare occasions the 1.0. I usually break out the 2.5 in the fall when the Shad are bigger and fish are more active. There are times in the spring though that I throw the 2.5, but mainly i stick with the 1.5.

Totally agree with hiis school of thought. However I LIKE to through the 2.5 and 3 inch squarebills whenever i can. I i like the better casting distance and the bigger target. I like the action of the spro square bills better, but the KVD 2.5 in the perch pattern is awesome anytime . I normally drop back and put oj the smaller size if the 2.5 isnt what they want.

I absoluitely and completely DISAGREE with anything that sounds, smells and even slightly resembles with the "match the hatch" school of thought, why ? because baits formed and/or painted  to look like something "familiar" in shape,size, form, finish, color pattern a bass may eat because it exists where you´re fishing. If I for any reason believed that the "match the hatch" would be my ticket for greater fsih catching success then I would be screwed beyond recognition, 99% of the baits availble in the market are sized, shaped and painted to resemble something that ...... dang, bass have never ever seen or eaten down here !, shad ? ----> bass have never seen them down here, trout ? ----> dude, this is warm waters, trout doin´t live down here ( of course there are a few exceptions, we do have trout down here, but the only place where you can find trout is high in the sierra so, for the most of the fishing I do sierra living trout don´t count ), crawfish ? ----> there are places with craws and there´s a bunch of places I fish where there are no craws, perch ? ---> bass down here have never seen them.

 

Forget about matching the hatch, in order to be effective you got to have several sizes, it´s not only a matter of size, it´s also a matter of sound, wobble, wiggle, about how the bait behaves and there are days that one bait catches more than the other.

I like the 1.5 in spring and fall or when the bite is a little slow, and the 2.5 in summer, or when ever I am looking for a bigger bite. I have a good supply of 1.0's too, but have yet to really find a time/place for them

I can't buy a bite on a 1.5 but the 2.5 for some reason just flat out catches fish for me.

I mainly use the 1.5. I like the 1.0 in clear water on spinning gear and for smallmouth. I don't own any bigger KVD baits but I do have some 2.0 sized Lucky Craft and some SK 4S that I'll toss when I'm looking for bigger fish or in dirty water.

Never had much luck with the 2.5, I think I've only caught a few fish on it.  Possibly that is because I have not thrown it near as much as the 1.5, but when they are biting something why change?  I typically use the Bomber coffin bills or Xcalibur fat free square bills, but they mainly fit the 1.5 size/frame.

Raul and I agree on not matching the hatch although likely for different reasons.  I choose baits based on what everyone else is using, and use something different. (The lakes I fish are small and get a lot of fishing pressure) Even if it's just a different size of the same bait in the same color although I rarely do that.  I like extremes, big, small, wild colors, no color.  It's a matter of personal prefference and that is what you need to decide for yourself.  I like crappie sized AND big flat sided cranks in the spring. I haven't used the KVD series yet, but the 1.5 and 3.0 would likely be my choices.

I agree with Raul that matching the hatch is way over rated. Where I live bass are an alien species and there are no bluegill or shad or even craws. Yet all these lure produce as good as lure colored or shaped to represent various tilapia and barbus species or crabs. However I have seen size matter a lot and actually just had a weekend where bass would crush a Norman DBN and ignore a DLN in the same color. (Red ear which also don't occur here). I also have had the reverse occur where I was catching on larger lure and had the smaller ones ignored. The bait monkey would love you to have both sizes in various colors anyway with a dedicated rod, reel and line for each size.
