gripnrip Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I just returned home from the Kid Rock concert in Tulsa. This concert would rank as my #2. My first choice would have to be Metallica. I am a lover of live music and I am always looking forward to see bands I've never seen before. So with your answers, it might just peek my interest to go to one that's your favorite. Tell a story to go with it if you want! Thanks and have fun with it. Quote
CoBass Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 One of the most memorable concerts I ever attended was KISS at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado way back in like 1990. It's an outdoor venue and during the show a thunderstorm rolled through. Huge lightning storm going in the background and with all of the rain, the lasers they were using looked like bright green, red, and blue dotted lines shooting out over the crowd. Here's a picture of the venue, Imagine it in the dark with tons of lightning going off behind the stage, and really cool lasers coming from the stage through the rain. Everybody was expecting them to take a break until the storm passed but they just kept on playing like it was nothing out of the ordinary. http://www.redrocksonline.com/portals/_default/skins/redrocks/rotation/rr11.jpg Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 That amphitheatre is awesome. Hard to say what my favorite was, so many different genres in different eras. Outdoors could be a toss up between "WAR" and "Earth Wind and Fire", "Hooked on Classics" laser light show was incredible. Indoors in Vegas " Paul Anka", never saw an entertainer sing eye to eye with everyone in the audience, just fantastic, for sheer electricity................ELVIS ! Quote
B-Dozer Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 A concert of crickets chirping on a warm Summer night Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 Don't know if you'd consider this a concert but. Buddy Guy at Buddy Guy's Legends. He plays for the home crowd every year Thurs- Sun. for a month with different guests every night. A big venue would have been Boston in around '86ish at Alpine Valley(Where Stevie Ray Vaughn died) for their comeback tour. Worst show was Ozzy Bark at the Moon. Concert ended early. Jake E Lee was hammered. I watched the roadies take his bottle away from him from the side of the stage. He refused to play. They gave it back and shortly thereafter he fell off the stage and was carted away. 1 Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 I followed the Dead in the late 80s for a summer tour, every show was awesome. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I went to Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert and it was ok. I think it would have been awesome had it not been on the night my Grandpa died. My mind was elsewhere. Other than that Garth Brooks was awesome in the 90's and a few years ago I saw Dierks Bentley and Brad Paisley and it was a phenomenal show. I would like to go see Luke and Miranda again sometime but I think concert tickets are getting way too expensive. Quote
Jake P Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 My dad used to play Billy Bobs, (which for those of you who dont know is the worlds largest Honky Tonk), every Friday and Saturday night for a good 8 months. His band opened for the main stage of the night. I have seen just about every band/artist in the country music business. We would sit on the back of the front stage and watch the concerts for free. My favorite though would have to be the George strait/ Blake shelton Concert and Cowboys stadium a few years ago. First event there after it opened. Blake Shelton was awesome. I actually love rock/ metal more than country. I have just never been a concert type of guy though. Only reason I have seen so many is because they were free and I was there. If I could go back in time though I would go see Pantera and Metallica. I would still love to see Staind, Disturbed, Godsmack and so many others. I probably never will spend the money on a ticket though when I could spend it at TW. 1 Quote

Super User BrianinMD Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 An outdoor show which had 8 bands on two stages during the day leading up to a 4 band main stage. Had pit passes for the main stage of Five Finger Death Punch, Lamb of God, Rob Zombie and Korn. Had a great time leading up to the main stage, once main stage started being in the pit for the first three bands was great. Each put on an awesome show, the only bad part was finishing with Korn. After the first three bands Korn was a disappointment and I left halfway thru their show. But that did not ruin the whole show, the other parts were two good. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 When I was a younger man growing up in Boston, back when "18" was legal age and Aerosmith was first getting established, Steven Tyler and the boys used to do unannounced pop - ins at some of the small local pubs / bars in and around the Boston Area. If a place had some kind of a decent stage and sound system, they'd just bust in and play a few songs right before last call - The place would just blow up ! A couple of times we were in places that had less than 100 or so people left in them before the band would show up. Of course, this was well before the social media era began, so unless you were there already, by the time you heard about it - it was over. Good Times man. A-Jay Quote

Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 I've been to several good concerts. None really stand out. I now have to visit Billy Bobs. 1 Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 When I was younger me and my dad saw Metallica, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and some others at a concert and it was probably the best of my life. Note *** This was before linkin park sucked. Meteora and before. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 Creed "pre Scott Stapp crackhead pill popper era" back in 1999. Watch Full Devil Jacket open for them along with Collective Soul. Three of the best bands, IMO, of that era. Full Devil Jacket is still on my iPod and iPhone and gets played daily 1 Quote
MyKeyBe Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Without a doubt, Pink Floyd in 94. One of the greatest things I have ever seen in my life. It was amazing! Quote
Maico1 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Well now how about.... It's a Beautiful Day, Jethro Tull and The Who in that order...all this was back in the day.....Then there was Led Zeppelin with about 75-100 in attendance, hell you could walk over to the bar get a drink and then go stand under Robert Plant while he performed with the rest of the band...... 2 Quote
Dave P Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 The Who, Alpine Valley, WI about 89 or so. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 Probably my favorite was Brooks and Dunn. First concert ever, early 90's. My step dad took me. Before the concert he took me down to the local "boot" store and I got a flannel shirt and a pair of cowboy boots. Nothing like your first ever concert. Will never forget that one. Edit-I just looked and it was 1991. A year before they release "Boot Scootin Boogie" as a single, but they did sing it at the concert. Jeff Quote

Maico1 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Again back in the day another good one was Jefferson Airplane ending with Grace Slick bending over signing White Rabbit to an Albany NY cop at the Palace Theater .....Needless to say the place went nuts....Papa John Creach was with them as well. 1 Quote
Jake P Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I've been to several good concerts. None really stand out. I now have to visit Billy Bobs. Robert, Its definitely an awesome place. Has everything from multiple bars, multiple stages, tons of pool tables, a restaruant and an arena for bull riding. Its in the Stockyards in Fort Worth. Cobblestone streets and people on horses everywhere. Its an awesome place if your into the country scene. If you do go, MAKE SURE you check out Joe T Garcias for some fine mexican food. Or Riskys BBQ. Everyone should come to Texas man I swear. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted February 11, 2013 Super User Posted February 11, 2013 Misfits were off the chain amazing. I had my wisdom teeth removed the day before the show and was blasted on loratabs cause I was hurting so bad. I could barely even open my mouth and couldnt talk at all. Cradle of Filth was the all time best ever. They straight up rocked the show. The first time I saw them was outdoors. They killed it. I got freaky behind a 18 wheeler trailer by the stage. The second time I saw them was indoors. And we had the floor of this building sagging from all the jumping around. It was insane. Godsmack and the Deftones rounds out my top four. That concert was awesome. Quote
scrutch Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Back in my wilder years I saw Van Halen a few times. They always put on a great show. I think if you are talking about sheer WOW factor, Ted Nugent takes it. The man is nuts in the coolest way imaginable! Flaming arrows, buffaloes, pure craziness! Quote
preach4bass Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Garth Brooks in the early/mid-90s put on the best "show". But, my favorite was a Toby Keith concert when he was just coming on the scene. The front of the stage was lined wth oversized lightbulbs. He decided that he wanted to sit down on the edge of the stage and sing, so he busted a few of the lightbulbs with his boot, kicked the glass out of the way, and sat down. The crowd rushed the stage, and everyone started taking lightbulbs as souvenirs. Someone came over the speakers and told the crowd to stop taking the lights! Before the concert was over he went body surfing through the crowd (while still singing). Everything was going great until one of the (hopefully female) fans got a little too frisky with him and he yelled (while singing), "Quit grabbing my crotch!" I was never so entertained or laughed so hard at a concert before! Quote
