What Should I Do With This Spinning Rod?

Okay so I had a shimano crucial spinning rod that was broken for a while and I took it back today..they replaced it with a new one and I now I have a new rod with tags and all..but I mostly use baitcasters today..trying to figure out what route to go in getting a baitcaster in place of it..a friend of mine uses spinning rods alot and he has a quantum code and rod he's trying to push on me for it ? Anyone use them much? I know there not that expensive but I thought about trading with him just because he wants it so bad..opinions?

I would keep it throw some 6 or 8 pound line on a reel and use it for drop shot shakey heads general finesse stuff.spinning rods are a great tool to have in your arsenal.

That's a really nice spinning rod and a not so nice casting reel. I'd hold onto the rod for those times you really need a spinning set up.

I would not trade good for something that is not so good.  IMO there isn't much out there you can't handle with a spinning rod.

There is no doubt that the crucial rod is the better piece of equipment. However I'm going to go the other way on the trade idea. If your not really going to use it and your friend is a good friend who needs it, deserves it, and will appreciate why not make him happy. On the other hand if he's just an opportunistic schemer trying to take advantage of the situation I wouldn't do it.

If your set on keeping it depending on the model I would use it for flukes. I only have one spinning combo in my arsenal, the only thing that's ever been tied to it is zoom fluke. I strongly prefer spinning to casting for flukes. Not so much for weight castability but I feel I work the bait better with the weight under my hand than in my hand.

If it wasnt for my spinning gear I wouldnt catch half the fish I do. Keep it, but a Stardic on it and rock on.

You bet I'd keep it if I were you! Fantastic rod for a lot of techniques. Agree with the Stradic comment from Jig Meister.

If it has tags, I wouldnt be surprised if you could trade it for a store credit at bass pro or another store and swap it for a casting model if need be....if thats what you want to do.

Bps will definitely give you store credit for it if it has the tags on it. I've done it on accident with a St. Croix I got as a gift. I wanted a longer rod so I took it back to bps and exchanged it only to find out later that my dad bought it online from a different company.

Everyone needs a few back up spinning rods.  Why trade it?  Besides, if you are ever on a jerkbait bite on a windy day, spinning gear with 12 or 14 lb Fireline solves the wind issue.  I always carry a jerkbait rod in the boat - all the time - every season.  There is no telling when a jerkbait bite might happen.

I never quite understood why when people start using baitcasters that they run away from spinning gear. As others have said in this thread, spinning gear is absolutely ideal for finesse presentations. You'd have to take away my Shimano Compre worm and jig spinning rod after a very bloody fight.

 

I'd keep the rod and get a nice reel for it and go finesse crazy.

May be too nice of a rod to just let it sit. If I wasn't going to use it much and I needed another good casting model, I'd take it to a shimano dealer and swap it. You could always take the bps store credit on a return.
