I love to fish for Big Smallmouth.. I float the New River in WV every chance I get..  I have been thinking about a trip to the 1000 Islands region for a smallmouth vacation but the problem is that I only have a Whitewater raft and a 16' aluminum boat with a 9.9 hp motor.

Do you guys think it would be possible to get on some giant smallmouth during May/June out of this smaller boat?  Ive never seen this area and maybe its bigger water than I would want.  What do you guys think?

I'd be taking that rig out on Chaumont Bay, just a little south from the Islands.

Might want to check the regs for that area.   I am not 100% sure there is a year round catch and release season for bass in those two counties yet.

Oh!  Forgot about that.  It's not open until the 3rd Saturday in June.

PM me with your address. I was just at a sportsman show in the area and have some brochures which might help you. All about fishing in the area.

Mr.Franco gave you some solid advice, take a look at this:

^^ theres 3 seperate clips from the original program.

It's a little dated, but if you havent seen the episode its worth watching all 3 parts.
