Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 8, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 8, 2013 I've looked all over and everything I've seen says that it's free to get into the Expo and weigh in but I just want to make sure I'm not missing something? Quote
plumworm Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 It's all free and bring a bag for the goodies and lots of money to spend on tackle Quote

gripnrip Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I've looked all over and everything I've seen says that it's free to get into the Expo and weigh in but I just want to make sure I'm not missing something? Bass Times stated that everything is free. That was I question I had is that u can infact buy stuff at the expo? Meaning its not just a show but u can purchase gear. There will be tons of stuff to purchase. It is sponsored by Dick's and there is going to be 180 plus booths in a 150,000 square foot area. Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted February 9, 2013 Super User Posted February 9, 2013 I've been to 5 classics and admission to the expo and weigh-In has always been free. If you are a tackle junkie the expo Is the place to be; plenty to buy and plenty of freebies such as key chains, sometimes t-shirts,(Angler specific) pens, and a ball cap here and there, etc.....Plum has It right when he says bring a bag or you can pick one up at the entrance and various vendor booths. There are so many vendor booths It is astounding. As an aside, I never cared much for getting up at 5:00 AM to go watch the launch but my buddy told me he really wanted to go so off we went. It was plain dumb luck but as we got to the exit he wasn't quick enough with the directions as to go right or left off the on ramp and I turned right and he realized It was supposed to be a left and as we turned around In a restaurant parking lot a sheriff's deputy blocked the main road. I about crapped my pants wondering If In Alabama It was Illegal to make a u-turn In a restaurant parking lot. lol It turns out they were blocking the road so all the classic boats can stay In line and have a smooth sail to the ramp. It was quite memorable. The point being Is the classic Is so much more than the expo and weigh-In! Quote
crankbait2009 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 If someone were to go to the Classic, What exactly would they have to pay for? Is all admission free? I have never been to one and was thinking of 2014 in Alabama. I realize you have to pay for food/lodging, etc but for actual Bassmaster Classic events, is there anything that is NOT free? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 9, 2013 Super User Posted February 9, 2013 Nope, all free. Come and go as you want, and just soak it all in. Beer's expensive, though! Quote
Megastink Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I really wish that they would bring the Classic to the Northeast part of the country. Maybe Champlain, Potomac, Chesapeake Bay, Erie? I'd love to visit the Expo! If it were a little more local to Pa.... 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 9, 2013 Super User Posted February 9, 2013 Well, do you remember the 2005 Classic at Three Rivers? http://www.bassmaster.com/tournaments/2005-bassmaster-classic 12.15 lb total for the win...B-O-R-I-N-G... Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 9, 2013 Super User Posted February 9, 2013 It's all free and bring a bag for the goodies and lots of money to spend on tackle X2. Plus a pen and either your favorite cap or paper for autographs. And make that a BIG bag!!! Quote

Anyone who lives around here will agree that that was the WRONG venue to showcase the fishing in this part of the country. If they were to host the Classic on, say, the Northern Chesapeake Bay, you would see 18-20lb average bags each day. Then theres the Potomac, 'nuff said! However, we locals tend to think that the Cesapeake is producing better quality fish than the Potomac in the last few years... Still, watching the Classic in some sounthern impoundment every year is BORING! I'd rather see the pros struggle, or simply fish a different part of the country. Quote
CayMar Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 This year the classic is too far away for me. But next year I'll be there. I just found out its going to be in Alabama. I'm already pumped up. Quote

Based on the weather pattern they're predicting, you might just get your wish. Quote
Megastink Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Based on the weather pattern they're predicting, you might just get your wish. One can only hope... But is still like to see the Classic or even the FLW Cup held in the northeast US. We have quality lakes around here. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 The Classic has been held in February since about 2006. Most northern lakes are frozen solid at that time of year, so southern waters it is. If they changed it to early fall, then northern lakes would be a great option. Quote

That's my point: it used to e in August, or thereabouts. Make it a September or even October tournament. That would be awesome... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 10, 2013 Super User Posted February 10, 2013 I think they moved to so they would not have to compete with other big brand sports, like the NFL. Quote
james 14 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I think April would be a good time to give the option of fishing during all phases of the spawn at any part of the country. Quote
gripnrip Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I think they moved to so they would not have to compete with other big brand sports, like the NFL. When ESPN purchased the rites that was probably one of the reasons. It seems I read an article in BASS Times or Bassmaster that there was more of an opportunity for bigger bags of fish to weigh. From other years, that I remember, that it was hotter than heck when they would have it. IMO I would like to see it move around actually. For instance. September or October up north. Down south Feb-April. Just a thought. Quote
crankbait2009 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 I am thinking about heading down to Alabama next year for the 2014 Bassmaster. For someone that has NEVER been to one, can anyone offer some insight on what to expect? Is there a lot of things going on to get involved in? Can one go to a Bassmaster classic and seriously be occupied for all three days of the event? Can you become bored just after a few hours? Anyone shed some light on this occassion? Quote

Never been to one myself, so this Tulsa deal will be my first. I'll try and remember to let you know what I think. I'm anticipating there's a lot to look at, I believe there's in the neighborhood of 150 booths. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 13, 2013 Super User Posted February 13, 2013 There is a lot to walk around and see, but, yeah, 3 days is a little too much. Good thing about this year, is there's always the Hard Rock Casino! Quote
james 14 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 If I were to go to a classic I'd be taking my boat and following some of my favorites around the water. This would fight the boredom for me, however, I imagine it would terribly boring for some others. Instead I'll be watching via the internet from the comfort of my home and with the ability to see what many different anglers are doing besides just the one or two within view. Quote
basscatcher8 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I think i remember a reference to them wanting to be like NASCAR with their superbowl at the beginning of the year too. But the big spawning fish was the main reason i heard for spring time classic's. I watched Chicago's classic from 2000 on bassmaster's website yesterday. It was messed up and guys were aggitated but they really had to work at it to get a limit. Was fun to watch. Quote
