Toeshots Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 What are you guys using to transport your rods and reels? I've made a decent investment in some quality gear this winter and I want to make sure I take care of it. I know a hard case will certainly offer better protection, but a soft case would be much more manageable on the boat, especially when we have 3 people on it. Ideally I'd like the case to hold 4-5 rod/reel combos up to 7' in length and have some kind of strap system to hold each setup separately and snug. Am I asking too much? Is there a soft case that can do this and still offer reasonable protection? If not, is there hard case out there to fit my needs? Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 8, 2013 Super User Posted February 8, 2013 When going on vacations I was looking for away to transport additional outfits that could not fit into the boat locker for special outings targeting other speciies... In this case walleye. I found a rod carrying case at BPS called the extreme rod tote. From my finding this particular system will transport 8 rods without reels or about 6 rods with reels mounted on them. It will house rods up to 7 feet and length and has strap tie downs for the rods and mini pockets at the ends for the butt section of the rod and for the rod tips. It has a nice carrying handle that allows for easy transport. Basically just unzip the soft rod tote system, load outfits, fold over the system on its self, ans then zip it up and your good to go. Keep in mind this was purchased back in the the early 2000s for about $30+/-, but I am sure a similar carrying system can be had today. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 8, 2013 Super User Posted February 8, 2013 I have a soft canvas material bag that my wife got from BPS. This thing can hold like 6 or 7 rods and reels in it at once. Pretty good. I think its like $30. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 8, 2013 Super User Posted February 8, 2013 Tackle Warehouse sells a Pro Locker Rod Bag - Might be what you're looking for. Sorry but we can't post a link to non-sponsored sites. A-Jay Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 When fishing as non boater in club tournaments, I'd carry my rods is a hard travel case and reels in a hard case designed for pistols. Both have foam linings and the equipment stayed stationary during transit. I'd unpack the rods before blast off and kept the reels in the case until we got to where we'd be fishing. I lost a little fishing time, but avoided quite a bit of boat rash on those reels. I guess a soft case could work just as well, but I went with what I had at the time. Quote
