papajoe222 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I've been considering using them on my c-rigs as I tend to shy away from rigging that way due to gut hooking fish. I use a tube c-rigged about 50% of the time and nose hooking them or a fluke would seem like a good option, especially over gravel or shell beds. Anyone every try this and if so could you share your opinion, positive or negative? I'd really like to keep this as an alternative to Texas rigging all the time for obvious reasons. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 7, 2013 Super User Posted February 7, 2013 Yes, that will work, a lot of people use a circle hook and nose-hooked baits on a C-rig. I personally only use 4/0 EWG hooks, and bigger baits, like the Eeliminator, Anaconda, or Lizard, and don't have a gut hooking problem. Try using braid as your main line for the increased sensitivity, and you might get off a quicker hook set. Quote

Thanks, I have the gut hooking occur more with long leaders on rigs that I float above the vegetation. I think it's more because of that long length of mono than my main line, but I'll give that a try too. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Circle hook nose hooked may get snagged too easily Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 7, 2013 Super User Posted February 7, 2013 Circle hook nose hooked may get snagged too easily That's what I was thinking. Can't imagine "lots of guys" doing it this way. Seems like it would be mentioned more often. IF (and that's a gigantically unlikely if) I use a Carolina rig, I use a straight shaft offset worm hook. No EWGs. You get the best hookset with this hook. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 7, 2013 Super User Posted February 7, 2013 Yeah, come to think of it, that probably is more of a drop shot thing. Like I said, I don't do it, and stick to Moaner Stroker or Stick'r for the baits I C-rig. Quote
Dave P Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 No, but I might give it a shot sometime. I personally use a 3/0 light wire hook and braid. Knock on wood, but I haven't had the gut hook issues but I don't C rig in heavy weed. Quote
