Comfortably Numb Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Late March to early April the Bass should be jumping in the boat. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 7, 2013 Super User Posted February 7, 2013 In Virginia we use the Dogwood bloom as the sign that the bass are on their beds. The first full moon after the Dogwoods bloom is our sign that the majority of Virginia bass are on their beds. So when do the Dogwoods bloom in Virginia? Depends on the winter and the temperatures. All I can suggest is that you PM me before you head down this way and I can tell you how the Dogwoods stand regarding their blossoms. Northern Virginia will be about a week behind the Richmond area but you will have a good idea of the spawn situation. Just check the moon tables for the March and April full moons. 1 Quote
quanjig Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 The res is a funny place (from my many years fishing there.) mid to late March if the weather is somewhat normal, should be pre spawn. Spinnerbaits, jigs, square bills, creature baits, jerkbaits will all produce on the res. check the edges of flats where they come out of deep water, edges of cuts and guts on the bluffy areas, the first third of major creeks. If we start to get some warmer weeks prior to that mid March time you could find them very shallow so don't count anything out. PM me before you make your trip and I will let you know how far along the fish are and give you some areas to try! Quote

Same thing for Anna, it can be a little sooner if the weather warms up abruptly, the lower part of the lake usually turns on in a hurry by the full moon phase in March, you can find the smaller males on secondary points before this phase sometimes, if so, then you really need to be out on the primary points looking for those drops heading back into the creek channels, or the rows of stump flats in the middle of the lake. Hanover_Yakker Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 School has to be your priority - without it, your long term social and business accumen could suffer. Not many folks are able to make fishing their career and very few are able to survive long term. It takes a sound business mind; a social and public repetoire to handle the demands thrown at you; integrity and determination. College is one of the many situations that will help mold the boy into the man and help you mature in various phases of life. As far as College Fishing, I would suggest reaching out to propsective teams for the colleges you may be interested in attending and seeing if they have any specific requirements. Heck, you probably already know someone who is or was on the team prior to you. They could provide a realistic feel for what all is entailed if you should be provided that opportunity. If you do get accepted into a college, I would focus on the school the first year, then approach the team in the off-season and maybe just go hang out with them on the water and talk casually with them. Another option is to post ask around with your friends if they want to fish. Eventually, your skills and success will filter back to someone on the team and they may actually reach out to you. Quote
