Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 A few weeks ago I heard about the deep web, dark web, or what ever you want to call it. Well after much researching, tinkering, and getting up my courage. I finally took the plunge. Holy smokes the amount of information and random stuff available down there is amazing. I learned real quick to pay careful attention to anything and everything you access. There truely is some insanely messed up stuff out there. Im not talking about that though. Im just amazed how massive and huge the internet really is. I never in my wildest imagined that there was so much more to the internet then just what pops up on yahoo and google. I can now say I truely believe the internet is mans greatest achievement. Quote

We try are best to filter what they do at home but with the "smart phone" game over for parents... This is stuff though that your typical child is not going to locate or even be able to access without a more advanced knowledge of the internet, proxys, and special programs. Searching information and what not is completely and totally different then on the world wide web. Basically you could almost say this is old school internet using new school technology. 1 Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted February 7, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 7, 2013 I can also say for certain that anything put out on the internet NEVER goes away. It may be buried and lost. However it is very much still there and accessible. Quote

preach4bass Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 What kind of 007 code did you have to use to access this great vault of wisdom? Nevermind! I Googled "deep web" and quickly realized that I don't want to go there. Unless, of course, I ever need a hitman, or an online ecstasy supplier (those were the two least perverted things I read about). Radier, I'm sure you're using it for more nobler purposes, but there are some sick perverts in the world. Quote

Im mining for information and other knowledge. My pursuits are purely academic for the time being. That browser is currently set to block images because of some of what you read about. And yes there are some extremely sick perverts in this world. It would make no one more happy then I to round them up and start decorating tree branches with them. 2 Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted February 7, 2013 Super User Posted February 7, 2013 Yep, I discovered a few years back that you can find anything on the internet as long as you know what questions to ask. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 7, 2013 Super User Posted February 7, 2013 I have to admit that I'm skeptical about this "dark web" scenario. Buy drugs? Hire a hit man? I doubt it. If you can find it, or I can find it, so can the authorities, and they can follow the trail to those promulgating illegal activities. Seem like a great place for all manner of scams. Quote

Well, theoretically, these networks cannot be traced or found. I have no idea how to go about making untraceable networks but I'm sure it's possible. Quote

It has to do with encryption. As well as a few other things. Instead of your "connection" going directly from point a to point b. TOR routes you between a vast array of servers before you finally reach your destination. The group Anonymous also resides down there. So you gotta think. The authorities have yet to catch them yet. Times have changed and apparently so have the hitmen and dope dealers. Quote
