Rangerphil Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Hey guys I have two shimano crucial 6'6" rods that are mh fast action baitcaster rods. I am not a huge fan of rods shorter than 7' but I like them. What would you use this rod for? I have many outfits so I don't need a multi-purpose rod setup like some people I try to be more technique specific. Any ideas? Thanks guys! Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 That is my favorite length, power, and action for spinnerbaits!! You can be super accurate with that length rod and if the sensitivty is ok, which I heard the crucials are preet good in that area, then you have a good senk rod. That length and power is what I call the "all purpose" rod but I use my 6'6" MH as a spinnerbait stick and another as my senko rod, I like it for clear water were I have to be back away from the cover to avoid spooking the fish so I'm too far for pitching yet I still need an accurate cast so the 6'6" is perfect for that kind of duty. Super User Teal Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 MH F, is super versitile. The 6'6" length wont give you the distance that a 7' gives you. They sound like a good jig, worm, spinnerbait, swim jig, chatterbait, fluke, buzzbait or topwater rod. I dont know what you already have for setups/combos. But if it was me and i had one more rod, it would be a swim jig/chatterbait rod. But it depends on what you have and dont have already Quote
Jig Meister Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I would use it as a spinnerbait/swig jig rod, I personally toss those on a M/F though MH/F is all around, but the length is what I say spinnerbait. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 MH? Crucial? Heck, I'd use it for a lot of different techniques, but since I'm mostly a soft plastics kind of guy, it'd be that. And jigs. And probably most everything else, too. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 Spinnerbaits and Texas rigged plastics would be a good choice. Some people also like them for throwing square bills too. Quote
thehooligan Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I'd use it for Texas rigged plastics... Quote
Rangerphil Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Spinnerbaits seems to be a top suggestion. I think the length is what has me not trying it for Texas rigged plastics. I do like the idea of using it for weightless senkos. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 Docks skipping, jerkbaits, ripbaits, topwaters. Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I would use for spinnerbaits as well, but I suppose it would be good for any close quarters target casting. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 Spinnerbaits or jig fishing when accuracy is key. Also if you feel like there isn't a place for them you can rig them as duplicates and keep them in the locker as spares or possibly sell them if you feel like you really don't need them. Quote
Jake Coucoules Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I use mine for any small plastics that i dont want to throw on a spinng rod. I use 30lb braid and its for 4-5 inch senkos and light texas rigs with 1/16-3/16 ounce weights. Quote
