SENKOSAM Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 You know how you used to look forward to receiving catalogs from BP or Cabelas in January? (I don't anymore). You know how guilty it makes you feel when you have to look at all those storage containers filled with old baits you gave up on over the last decade or more? Well here's the solution to getting interested in using old lures that have potential. Make a photo catalog of each bait design and colors. Have a separate folder for soft plastics and a second for hard baits. After a week or so review the pictures and try to remember what attracted each design/color when you first bought them. You may find the lure attractive in the sense that all you've read, watched on tv or seen used a certain way, may have distinct possibilities for this or that lure. Leafing through some new and old BassMaster magazines got me thinking about the lures they used in the articles that might fit the bill without having to buy more just because a specific company's lure was mentioned. The nice thing as that you don't have to pay S/H or tax! LOL Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 I still use PopRs, ChugBugs, Rattletraps, etc. that I've had since the early 90`s. As long as they don't get lost, I just put new hooks on them and keep slinging them. 1 Quote
mnbassman23 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Good thinking right here. I think we are all "guilty" of getting caught up in the latest and greatest and tend to shy away from what use to work. I know I am anyways. I recently went through all my tackle to see what I needed to stock up on and found some 7" powerbait worms that I haven't thrown in the past 2 years. It use to be one of my biggest producers, both numbers and size, and here I haven't even had it tied on in the past 2 years. Makes me shake my head in disbelief. I actually cut down on my "need" list for this year and am going to bring back a couple lures that I haven't used in some time. 1 Quote
jhoffman Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I have thin fins in my box, wiggle warts, wiggle o's, hot n tots, thundersticks.... yeah they still get fished. They all just got new hooks! Quote
SENKOSAM Posted February 5, 2013 Author Posted February 5, 2013 Looking at the photos makes me want to chose which ones to try next outing rather than decide by going through box after box. They also bring back memories of which ones caught fish even though maybe not two years in a row. Quote
Jig Meister Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Those zoom centipedes are awesome served up wacky Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 6, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 6, 2013 I found an old Natural Ike walking the bank last week, haven't seen one of those in a long time. I have and still fish with some original wiggle warts and thin fins. I have some old metal lipped mud bugs too. Those old baits certainly still catch fish too. Quote
KDW96 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I still have some bottles of Uncle Josh tiny craws i picked up back in the 80s. I always carry some still today,as i always manage to get fish with them.Just wish i could find more? Quote

Super User *Hootie Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 A lot of my old baits are so old and nostalgic, that I quit using them, for fear of losing them. Might sound silly, but that's just who I am. Hootie Quote

Blue Streak Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I still use a lot of baits I bought new in the 60's and 70's. The old Storm baits, Rapalas, Mudbugs, wood Bombers, The Rebel deep Humpy and Wee R, Hellbender and the very early Bagley baits. I still hunt for some of them on E Bay and flea markets. Quote
