pjmags Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Hey guys! Spring is coming relatively soon and I'd love to be completely prepared. This will be my first spring as an avid bass fisherman so I am new to the tactics and techniques of spring bassin'. So I am reaching out to you for some advice. I'd like to hear everyones favorite bait and favorite technique for the spring. Thanks! -Patrick Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 A lot of folks opt for cranks and spinnerbaits in the spring, especially during pre-spawn. My favorite, though, is a swim jig with a Rage Tail Baby Craw on the back. Quote
gripnrip Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Biffle head with a Biffle bug. Put a rattle inside or buy the bug's with the rattle in the bait. Retrieve fast enough to keep it contact with the bottom or cover. Quote
MrPeanut Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I'm a fan of the yo yo retrieve with a lipless crank in spring Quote
dyerfish Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I heard chatterbaits are great in the spring Quote
Big Bassman Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Bass will hit just about anything in the spring. Cranks, Spinnerbaits, and Jig & Pig are all right up there. However, whats most important in the spring is when you go and where you go. Make sure to go as often as you can, and start as early in the year as you can. We are having crazy springs and you don't want to miss out on those really big bass. They are starved and when they start eating they go absolutely wild! When you go, try to fish water that you're pretty sure has mature bass in it. If you can get a hold of a topo map check for areas that have deep water like river channels near points leading into shallow water. In other words, put youself in the most likely spot to catch a lunker bass and your odds will skyrocket. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 Mmmm Spring. Senkos, jigs. 1 Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013   Mmmm Spring. Senkos, jigs. Two great baits for sure!!! I like to also fish swim jigs, lipless cranks,C-rigs,t-rigs,jerk baits and I target water temps in the early spring from upper 40's to low 50's and I look for points near spawning ares and fish the first and second breaks, that is where the big females start to stage. And it can differ from lake to lake and water depth. But it is a good starting point. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 5, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 5, 2013 Spring time is jerkbait time! I'm a jerkbait addict and look forward to fishing them every spring. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 Love the springtime. Weather is warmer. I like jigs, cranks, and spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 You do not say if you are boat fisherman or bank restricted? This might get you some different responses here. Spring is definitely a jerkbait time. I've had good results with Chatterbaits and spinnerbaits as well. But again, depends on what your fishing situation is. Jerkbaits may not be a great option if you are bank fishing. Only because the odds of loosing an expensive bait to a snag, might make you want something else instead. Also, do you fish lakes or rivers? Target species LM or SM? Quote

jhoffman Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I know what ill be throwing... jerks, lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, jigs(including tubes, hair and beavers)(not hair beavers ) I might even try to vertical jig a spoon if theyre deep enough. Quote
JoePhish Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Spring seems to already have sprung down here. Seen some beds already. I've been yanking up some fatties methodically working weedlines with Sweet Beavers pegged on a 5/0 Trokar Flippin hook with glass bead and 1/4 tungsten bullet weight. Quote
Dingah Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Mmmm Spring. Senkos, jigs. X2 for the Senkos, can always count on them in the spring! Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted February 7, 2013 Super User Posted February 7, 2013 Spring is my favorite. Lipless cranks squarebills amd football jigs. Winter is so mind numbing. Quote
