Nice_Bass Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 What is the max diameter difference in fluro to braid usinga uni to uni that you guys are using? Not quite walking a fine line, but feel like I may be getting prettyclose. Light finesse stuff here on a bcand I think I am happy but have not tested the knot quite yet on a good fish…Trying to walk a fine line of braid diameter not too thin for too much digging into the reel;and the right combo of fluro leader. Lookingfor some personal feedback. Thanks, Mark Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 I use 10# Nano and 12# Yo-z without a problem. I use the knot Berkley suggests and normally apply a thin coating of superglue on it. Quote
Jig Meister Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 are you asking about the braid to FC connection knot, or the FC to lure knot? Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 I use the Uni Knot for about everything except joining braid to fluor or mono. For that I use the Alberto. It is a smaller diameter knot that I personally feel is a bit stronger than the Uni-to-Uni....especially if using a fluoro leader. The braid gets wrapped around the fluoro/mono so there isn't a chance of the fluoro/mono cutting into itself. As far as the differences in diameters goes, I don't see why you couldn't use any size. As long as the fluoro knot doesn't slip, then why worry about the amount of difference between the two line diameters? Many suggest not going below 40# braid on a b/c to eliminate digging in. That is why I went with 40# myself when I bought my first spool of braid. However, I have since read of several people using lighter braid with no problems. I wonder if the reel doesn't maybe play a roll in how light you can go. This coming year I will be trying 20# on one of my reels.. 1 Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 I use a modified al right knot. Loop the leader, wrap the braid. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 I use the Albright, reverse Albright, double, but mostly Albright for joining braid to any leader material. I have used 10lb braid on one baitcaster, and I used the Albright to tie leaders. Yes, have used Uni-to-Uni, but feel the Albright is a smaller knot, and a stronger knot. At least in my experience. Just spooled 20lb PowerPro on my Lexa last night, tied a 15lb P-Line Floroclear leader to it using Albright. If you haven't already seen it, here's some info on knots for unequal line sizes, etc. http://www.animatedknots.com/usesfishing.php?Categ=fishing&LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com 1 Quote
Super User deep Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 Alberto knot for everything.. 30 lb braid to 10-12 lb leader, 55 lb braid to 14-16 lb leader, or 80 lb braid to 20-25 lb leader for me (different applications). 1 Quote
Nice_Bass Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Thank you all- thats what i was looking for. Darren- that is the exact diameter i am working with 20# pp and 15# fluro- and have felt that the braid would cut the knot at that difference. Looks like I may need to look into the alberto knot again- Honestly I have not tied one in a some time. I also clearly never use careless puns for any reason...ever Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 I'm not going to suggest a knot or line to use, whatever works for you is the one to use. For testing purposes I wouldn't be fishing for bass, seeing as your in the midwest I'd might be going after catfish or carp. I'd want to test my knots and lines on the biggest and most powerful fish available to me, if they hold for those fish, bass won't be a problem. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 6, 2013 Super User Posted February 6, 2013 Use an Alberto knot, and forget about worrying. http://www.stripersonline.com/a/albertos-knot Quote
