In lieu of the other post asking for your worst purchase, let's flip it and see what is the one fishing item you wished you had never sold........

Mine is a double-header.

First, I sold my original Shimano Bantam 100, my very first baitcaster and I'll never live it down.

Second, I sold a Shimano Teramar Inshore SE casting rod (6'6" M/XF) last spring and forgot that the whole reason the rod was sitting at the house without a reel on it was because I had sent the reel off for service. Doh!!!!

Gold BPS carbonlite reel...I just found another after a bit of searching but in used condition....it works like new though.

I too sold a Bantam Curado, but it was a 200. I let it go because it was just too big for my hands. I had that reel since new from when I was 12, back in 94. Just recently found a 100B here in the market. Its now my new daily user. I love these reels.

Wish I had snatched up one or two more Lamiglas SR705R Glass Cranking Rod before they stopped making them ~

Anyone got one they want to sell ?

They aren't really that good . . . . . .

:cry3:

I was on some hard times a coupe years ago and had to sell some gear. Included in that gear was a MINT 50th anniversary Zillion. It still breaks my heart.

It's not something I sold, but something I threw away...

In 1966, I found a 5.5' plastic handle solid-glass casting rod laying on the bank on Tamiami Trail in South Florida. The plastic handle was cracked nearly all the way through at the reel seat and the wraps on the guides were rotten and the guides were nearly falling off. I cut off the plastic handle and re-wrapped the guides. I then bought a metal ferrule for a couple bits (I already had some ferrule cement) and glued it to the bottom of the blank, then bought a new chucked handle for a buck or two. I put on my now 5' rod a Lido (what the heck is a Lido!) spincast reel that I  got with ONE book of S&H trading stamps. So, the whole rig cost me a book of trading stamps and <$2.50 cash.  I used that new rig to catch my first >4lb bass (a 4 3/4 lb largemouth).

I had drug that rod (and my very first rod from the 1950s) around for over 40 years and finally tossed them during my move from California to Tennessee in 2008.  I still have the reel, now mounted on  a cheap BPS rod for use by my wife (but she’s never used it). And I have a photo of the best catch with that rod, but I wish I had the rod back - just for nostalgia sake.

BTW - the next time you read about someone saying that their new, fancy bass rig is so great because it handled "a 4 pounder with no problem"...think of my homemade rod and my spincast reel...

I get a chuckle out of this as well.  My old ultralight spinning rods landed much bigger fish than that.  :)

EDIT:  I can guarantee the rod and reel together didn't cost but a fraction of what they spent on just one item.

I never really had bad luck like that but , I managed to get my hands on a pretty old st croix rod. It's in great condition for its age.

BPS Pro Lite (this was the honey mustard colored reel). The reel was absolutely flawless mechanically and cosmetically. I had it serviced and supertuned. Ended up selling this reel with a Skeete Reese micro honeycomb rod for $100. I wasn't fond of the rod but I do regret selling the reel.

I was 8 if that helps  :punch-2:

Mine would be my 14' john boat I sold a couple years ago. It was a 14' Lowe in great condition but a buddy talked me into selling it to him to turn into a duck boat. I guess I didn't realize how much I used that thing and the 12' john boat I bought to replace it just isn't nearly as stable.
