Sup Y'all.

1. I really want to know everyones most effective retrieves when it comes to these three baits in cold water. (Under 60 degrees) Tell me about how long you swim the bait between pauses(if you even pause), how you swim the bait, and if and how you puase your bait etc.  Be specific and give as much detail as you can.

1. Lipless cranks in a lake with no grass (slow roll?  Jerks and pauses letting the bait sit on the bottom for a second?  Swim it high in the water column?  Other?)

2. Jerkbaits (long sweeps?  Small jerks? Little twitches?  Long pauses? How long?)

3. Jigs (hopping?  Sweeping?  long pauses? Other?)

I'm really not trying to be a smart-a$$, but my favorite technique is the one that the fish like the best on that day.

I use all of those techniques with those types of baits and I've caught bass with 'em all.

Try 'em all and let the bass decide. :)

1. Lipless cranks: Steady retrieve with an occasional pop; generally fast.

2. Jerkbaits: Long sweeps, long pause (5-10 seconds);

small jerks: little twitches.

3. Jigs: Sloooooooooow movement crawling over structure and cover.

Then stop and hide!

You should be asking the fish not us. Experiment with different retrieves untill you find one the fish likes. 8-)

I just asked the fish "What's been fishinflip415's most successful retrieve with a jerkbait in cold water?"

They had no idea.

1. Lipless cranks: slow rolled like a spinner bait

2. Jerkbaits: 3 fast jerks-pause-3 more jerks all the way back to the boat

3. Jigs: pretty much like a Texas Rig

Posted

1) traps-slow rolled or yo-yo

2) jerks- jerk pause two quick jerks long pause cadence

3) jig-slow roll it or fish it like a Texas rig

This is usually my routine when I first throw these baits, then I make adjustments.

Lipless: Yo-yo - varying retrieve from long pulls-and-falls to small hops.

Jerkbait: 2 twitch 1 twitch cadence, varying pauses from 3-10 seconds.

Jigs: small hops and a lot of pauses.

Lipless - I run steady, fairly fast retrieve or jerk and reel, jerk and reel.

Jerkbaits - Quick twitch, twitch, twitch, pause, twitch, twitch, twitch... and well, its the same retrieve as Catt's.

Jigs - Shake, and work it thru cover and pump it like a texas rig.
