Super User rockchalk06 Posted February 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2013 What a great idea! I'd get nervous at about 110 yards. But I had another idear......that would be a great way to make sure all your line was spooled nice and tight on your reel!! Quote

Jell0b0y Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 My dad rigged up and old Garcia and fiberglass pole to do that when I was a kid. Only word of warning is when the kite gets really high don't let go our you will be chasing your rod half way across the county . It would at times try to pull the rod out of my hands on real windy day but it was a blast. 1 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 I did that years ago with a big spinning combo I'd bought for flathead fishing.... It stripped the gears out Quote
bassmedic46 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I never thought about doing that, now my kids want to try it Quote
endless Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 And here I was thinking of a broken rod for a hood prop. Nice I always wanted to try kite fishing.I heard it's very tricky. I think I seen it on Hooked. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 My Boomerang Snip doubles as a nose hair trimmer. Sweet. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 4, 2013 Global Moderator Posted February 4, 2013 I use an old Lew's Speed Stick and Abu C3 5600 for casting a knotted up rope around the house for our dog to chase. 1 Quote
L a r r y Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I used to do that 30 years ago with an old Zebco Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 4, 2013 Super User Posted February 4, 2013 Ever hear of kite fishing for sailfish? They make specific rods for that. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 4, 2013 Super User Posted February 4, 2013 That's how I flew a kite when I was a kid. Used my Curado200B and 12# Stren. You really feel the flex of mono doing that. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 4, 2013 Super User Posted February 4, 2013 Modern braids were initially developed for kite flying. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 4, 2013 Super User Posted February 4, 2013 We use to use the old "knuckle buters" baitcasting reels back in the day (early 50's), for flying box kites. I wonder how many know what a box kite is. LOL! We used kite string on the reel. Quote
SDoolittle Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 When I was a kid, I tried that with a Zebco 33 combo, but the line snapped, and I ended up chasing my kite for a long way to get it back. After that, I started using my grandpa's deep sea rod. I don't know how much line that thing held, but I'm glad it never broke. Quote
CountBassula Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Now the $64,000 question is: Texas or California rigged kite for bass?!? Quote
