What a great idea!

I'd get nervous at about 110 yards. But I had another idear......that would be a great way to make sure all your line was spooled nice and tight on your reel!!

Great idea, kite flying, line spooling. Like it.

My dad rigged up and old Garcia and fiberglass pole to do that when I was a kid. Only word of warning is when the kite gets really high don't let go our you will be chasing your rod half way across the county :). It would at times try to pull the rod out of my hands on real windy day but it was a blast.

I did that years ago with a big spinning combo I'd bought for flathead fishing.... It stripped the gears out

And here I was thinking of a broken rod for a hood prop.

Nice I always wanted to try kite fishing.I heard it's very tricky. I think I seen it on Hooked.

I use an old Lew's Speed Stick and Abu C3 5600 for casting a knotted up rope around the house for our dog to chase.

That's how I flew a kite when I was a kid. Used my Curado200B and 12# Stren. You really feel the flex of mono doing that.

Modern braids were initially developed for kite flying.

We use to use the old "knuckle buters" baitcasting reels back in the day (early 50's), for flying box kites. I wonder how many know what a box kite is. LOL!

We used kite string on the reel. :)

When I was a kid, I tried that with a Zebco 33 combo, but the line snapped, and I ended up chasing my kite for a long way to get it back. After that, I started using my grandpa's deep sea rod. I don't know how much line that thing held, but I'm glad it never broke.

Now the $64,000 question is: Texas or California rigged kite for bass?!?
