No. Believe that most "modern" rods can handle the current crop of line out there.

i use braid for all of my setups minus a spinnerbait and it made a grinding compared to the whistling of all my other St croix

While I have not used my Rage rod yet, all the Fenwicks I had used the same style Pac-Bay guides, regular size, not micros, and I used them for years and years with braid and had no grooving issues. Yes, they made more noise than a ceramic insert type guide.

I have used my rage rods for about 7 trips and haven't noticed any wear. I think they are noisier because in essence the guide is acting like a string on a violin as the line is pulled through it creates some sound. I noticed it on my first trip using the rods but after 2 or 3 trips I don't even notice it anymore.

No, I have used a rage rod for a complete season as my frogging outfit and its as good as when I first bought it. I use 50lb PP.
