livetofish28 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Will braided line damage the Pac Bay guides on St Croix rage rods. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 No. Believe that most "modern" rods can handle the current crop of line out there. Quote
livetofish28 Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 i use braid for all of my setups minus a spinnerbait and it made a grinding compared to the whistling of all my other St croix Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 While I have not used my Rage rod yet, all the Fenwicks I had used the same style Pac-Bay guides, regular size, not micros, and I used them for years and years with braid and had no grooving issues. Yes, they made more noise than a ceramic insert type guide. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 I have used my rage rods for about 7 trips and haven't noticed any wear. I think they are noisier because in essence the guide is acting like a string on a violin as the line is pulled through it creates some sound. I noticed it on my first trip using the rods but after 2 or 3 trips I don't even notice it anymore. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 I have 40lb on my Rage rod...seems to be just fine to me. I think you're safe. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 No, I have used a rage rod for a complete season as my frogging outfit and its as good as when I first bought it. I use 50lb PP. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 Nope, braid wont hurt them. Quote
