Robert Nkemdiche No. 1 in final Rivals' ranking of Top 100 football recruits for
National Signing Day 2013.

He has reduced his choices to LSU and Ole Miss.

To celebrate Nkemdiche's impending visit to LSU, here is some Ole Miss trivia...

The last time Ole Miss won the SEC in football was 1963 - 50 years ago.

Ole Miss has never won a conference championship in basketball, but did make it to the Sweet Sixteen... once.

In 2009 Ole Miss won their first conference championship in baseball in 30 years.

Ole Miss has never won a conference title in Track and Field - Indoor or Outdoor.

Ole Miss is one of very few teams in the nation who can claim that they have NEVER won an NCAA national championship in any sport - not boxing or badmitton, not wrestling or rowing. Not one.

Here's another bit of trivia - you know the Black Bear that they recently took as their mascot? Well, its official name is actually the Louisiana Black Bear and is the Louisiana state mammal.

Hotty Toddy!

The following table ranks the current SEC schools by the number of NCAA recognized national championships each school has won. This does not include Division I-A/FBS football championships, equestrian championships, or unofficial championships in other sports such as men's basketball.

However, it does include AIAW titles, which the NCAA has retroactively recognized as equivalent to its own national championships. Please note that some championships may have been won before the school was a member of the SEC.

For example, Arkansas won 18 national championship prior to joining the SEC in 1992. If those are removed from the table below, Arkansas would be tied for fourth place with 24 national championships while a member of the SEC.

Texas A&M won 11 national championships and Missouri two before joining the SEC in 2012.

In addition, some recognized national championships in sports that are (or were) not sponsored by the SEC:

  • Kentucky's total includes one championship in rifle, which the SEC has never sponsored.
  • Vanderbilt's only national title is in bowling, another sport yet to be sponsored by the SEC.
Championships School 43 LSU 41 Arkansas 26 Florida 26 Georgia 17 Tennessee 14 Auburn 11 Texas A&M 10 Kentucky 8 Alabama 3 South Carolina 2 Missouri 1 Vanderbilt 0 Ole Miss 0 Mississippi State

Just thought you college football guys would enjoy the stats.

Jeff, they are counting real national championships in all sports.

Bamasux counts everyone they ever got voted.

If we follow that logic, LSU has six football national championships.

Ole Miss would have one also as some poll awarded them the national title back in 63.

The national titles are the ones the NCAA recognizes.

Actually, Alabama doesn't count all of them. The 1966 season Alabama finished undefeated and was robbed of N.C. because of politic. Before NCAA and AP they had other ways to crowned titles, and Alabama count the ones that counted during those times in addition to AP and NCAA...
