Diggy Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Looking for a light sensitive rod to put my orra s reel on (30 size) in the 100 max range. It's on the combo rod it came with. I was thinking about a carbonlite, veritas (not sure how the spinning is,, might be over powered), falcon, Powell diesel(matches the reel)..suggestions? Medium or medium light would be my choice. Zoff Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I just pick up, against my better judgement, a Berkley Lightning Shock 7' Medium Light for dropshot. This is a truly nice rod that I would stackup against any of my Abu's. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 My first choice would a used Avid 68MXF if you can find one in your price range. For new rods I would go Carbonlite.68MXF. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 Take a look at Saint Croix Eyecon series. Though they are marketed to the walleye guys, they have a few M/XF models that work really well for finesse bass baits. I have a 6'3" ML/XF that is almost the same as my Avid with the same specs, but with a nicer handle. 2 Quote
Southfork Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I've had pretty good luck with Shimano Clarus rods, although they were the old style. If I were going out tomorrow to buy a medium or medium light rod, I think I'd pick up that Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod I've been eyeing at the local fun store. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 I have been using a St Croix Mojo 6'8" M/XF for 3-4 years now. Great $100 rod IMHO. And like JFrancho said, take a look at the Eyecon's. I am glad I did, I picked up a 6'3" M/XF this winter. I have not fished it yet, but I know, since it's a St Croix, it will be a very good rod. Super User Darren. Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 Have had great luck with Shimano Compres. If you can get to a Bass Pro or other store that has a range of $100 rods, take your spinning reel in with you and try it out on each rod. Quote

11justin22 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Get the carbonlite. I own veritas and a carbonlite, the carbonlite fishes way out of its price range IMO. Quote
aceman387 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Another vote for the eyecon.I bought a 7ft lite model and its my go to rod for finesse and ultra light type fishing. Quote
Diggy Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 Thanks, Ill do some research based on some of the reccs Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 I would also agree that the 6'8" MXF Mojo is the best rod in the mojo ineup. I also have a veritas in 7mf and it is a good rod too but for finesse applications it feels a little heavier so maybe a ml would be a better choice. Quote
McAlpine Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 The carbonlite rods at sub $100 pricing fish like much more expensive rods. However; if you look around you should be able to find a Smoke spinning rod on sale for $100 or less. If you can find one cheap, these are a great deal for that price, they just dont seem to sell well at their original price and always seem to go on sale but they are very nice. Quote
skeletor6 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I say go with a Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth M/XF or ML/F depending on the power you want. These are very light and sensitive rods that fish well above their price point and can be had new for right around $100 shipped. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 My 7' Medium Carbonlite is 4.1oz and the 6'6" Medium is 3.9oz. Very, very nice to fish with all day. Quote
JDUB Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 *** *** Black 7'1" medium. Its light, sensitive and really good looking lol. Ive had one for 2 months now and imo its much better then what St. Croix offers for $100. Quote
JigMe Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 If you are looking for a Finesse Rod around $100, my choice will be Mojo MBS68MXF. Quote
Super User MCS Posted February 2, 2013 Super User Posted February 2, 2013 Love my Carbonlite. I Have a MH/F super lite and plenty of back bone. Fish mostly weightless or lite weight Texas rigs. Quote
