Maico1 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Will be at the Osaka Show this weekend in Japan..............http://fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/reel/3172 Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Pretty wild looking - kind of looks like an old Calais that got left in a wind tunnel overnight then dumped into a tumbler to smooth it out Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 Very Futuristic Appearance ~ At the bottom of the page of the attached link - there seems to be two spool options for the reel. Both a shallow and a deep spool; really like having the choice. The flexibility to use the same reel for a couple of different applications is nice. Clearly I do realize that I one of the few here who are unable to read Japanese, so I'm simply going by the pictures. A-Jay Quote

A-Jay You are correct as well as the three different gear ratios that will be available and some of the carry over from the Antares HG. i.e. Micro gearing and the new SVS braking system. A-Jay If you use Chrome, it will translate the site for you to English. Helps a boat load in understanding what the heck we're looking at. lol. I actually really like the look of this reel. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 I wouldn't pay that much for a reel! :laugh5: 1 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 The 8.5:1 ratio model offers a whopping 35.8 ipt. 6 ounce weight. $456 at current conversion rates. Optional spool about $100 - the going rate. Now, will all this translate into a new Calais replacement for the U.S. ? Quote

Super User Goose52 Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 Yeah - lots of nifty introductions on the JDM scene, but pickins' are getting a bit sparse here. One would think that all this new technology would translate over into updated Calais and Core models for the U.S. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 It Looks like Shimano took a page out of Daiwa's styling book with that flat top up there. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 The styling actually reminds me of their old Bantam 100 reels. Or even the old Chromica: 1 Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 3, 2013 Super User Posted February 3, 2013 I like the design. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 3, 2013 Super User Posted February 3, 2013 That's an amazing looking reel. Dang. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted February 3, 2013 Super User Posted February 3, 2013 The reel question is are you bringing one back? Or maybe two, with one for me! Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Leave it to a country that sells memberships to golf clubs on their stock exchange to bring you such a wonderful product, and at such an affordable price. I bet you will find them on Ebay for $409.00 all day long. I want one. Quote
scbassin Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I started buying Shimano Reels in the middle 70's with the purchase of 6 Bantam Magnumlite Plus 2001. I now have 76 shimano reels & will add a couple of these at the 8.5:1 gear ratio. When does it stop? Quote
