Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 I had my mind set on a medium 6'8" Crucial but am wanting to explore other options. Here are my uses for this. 1/4-1/2 oz Poprs, small jerk minnows, torpedoes etc. Needs to be a casting rod, light weight, shorter handle as its a topwater only, and no longer than 6'8". I'd like to stay in the 150 range if possible. I will more than likely be using 30# braid only if that makes a difference. And lastly if you would, let me know why you use it. Thanks Quote
Quitlimpin Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 If you can find one, the Cumara reaction 6'3" medium is sweet for smaller topwaters. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 I know these are touted as Smallmouth rods but the green bass don't really know the difference. And for the price, you really get a whole lot of rod. A-Jay http://www.fenwickfishing.com/prod.php?k=472253&sk=472009&p=PURESMC610M-F%20(1238603)#ESMC610M-F (1238603) Quote

Quitlimpin Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Not necessarily out of that range if you are ok with it not being new. I grabbed mine off the used rod rack at a local shop for about $125. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I use the new Clarus 6' 8" crankbait rod for topwaters in M/F with 15lb big game. It is very light and has a surprising amount of power. I have a Gen3 Revo STX on it. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 At the risk of joining the LGMouthGambler school of Shimano pimping, Shimano's Compre has a 6'8" M/F for a mere $99 and it is light with a short butt. Why? I have to admit that I own two Compre rods and I love them. Are they the best? Personal preference. Are they pretty good for the money? In my humble opinion, yes. Quote
11justin22 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I may get raked over the coals but I would buy a cheaper rod for topwater as long as it will load and throw small lures well. Topwater is reaction more or less. Also I personally use a shorter rod and I remember u saying in posts before that u like long rods. I like 6'3 or 6'6' I feel I can work the baits better. So having said all that look at the vendetta 2 in 6'3" m/f, or if u must spend more money than go with the fenwick mentioned above in 6'3". Quote
