Megastink Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I couldn't take it anymore on Sunday. I bought my PA fishing license a few weeks ago, and get my trout stamp. With a few inches of snow on the ground, I grabbed my rods and drove to my local lake (in TOTAL denial). The lake was, of course, frozen solid, as we're the streams around the area. I was a little depressed. On my way home, I stopped to get gas. I saw a little stream behind the gas station. My eyes followed the stream down, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw open water downstream! I grabbed my ultralight rigged with 4lb test and my favorite ultralight lure: a #4 Rapala X-Rap. I froze my butt off, but I was rewarded with a gorgeous 18" Rainbow Trout! I was just happy to feel a tug on my line. I'm still happy! Anyone catch anything yet? 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Congrats! Went out yesterday, nada, zip, zamboni. Not even a nibble. But it was a beautiful couple hours on the water here in VA. Quote

Rare that we'd actually freeze. Enjoy that yak, man. Customize it and show it off! Quote
Jmrichardson2011 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Don't quite own the yak yet - still trying to convince my better half that's it worth it and I need it (i offered to buy her and the little guy in profile pic a canoe - she doesn't like me casting in the boat next to her - she is afraid I am going to hook her. I have only ever hooked my brother, when we were little and on a pier). If I get one i will definitely be making my own. Looking at a Wilderness Ride 135 tonight. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 31, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 31, 2013 I caught my first fish from a non warm water lake a few days ago, just a dink largemouth on a 78 pointer. The last two weeks we've gone to a power plant lake and had 110 fish one day and 94 the next with a big mix of largemouth, smallmouth, white bass, wipers, catfish, and crappie. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted January 31, 2013 Super User Posted January 31, 2013 Awww...no pic? Last time I got out was New Years eve morning. Caught a brown trout about the same size as your rainbow. As soon as I get my rent paid for this month Im gonna pick up my 2013 liscense. Im probably gonna do a little more trout fishing till the bass bite picks up. I might try for bass a little but at the lakes I fish most of the water accessible from the shore is pretty shallow so Im not expecting much. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 Feel fortunate living here in Knoxvile, Tn. Every time I've been out I've caught fish. Jan 1st was up at Norris and had two smallies over 18 and a few smaller fish. We've had some cold but have been able to get out. Yesterday caught a drum around 20# on a floatin fly that really stretched my string. Love living out here... it's a rare day you can't get out. Tight Lines Quote
DeadEyeDavey Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Everything is frozen up here too, luckly for me I have ice fishing stuff. Been slamming the Walleye on the Saginaw river lately, but lost my spud, now I'm sitting here reading about everyone else catching 'em. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 5, 2013 Super User Posted February 5, 2013 Good catch, and good job at getting out. Quote
