Super User flyfisher Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 So i figured now was as good a time as any to start working out again and since i had done the p90x and had good results i figured i would go for it again. I forgot how good these workouts really are. Of course like any workout you get results based on what you put into it and if soreness is indicative of effort i busted my buitt Due to a bum back i am skipping their ab workout as it requires you to lay on your back and i just can't do it for as long as i would like so i picked up the abcarver pro wheel type system. That thing is brutal!! Anyways just wanted to put it out there if anyone is thinking about it go for it and stick to it and the meal plan, which is really good and flexible, and you will see results. I could stand to lose probably 15lbs or so and in one week i have lost about 5 already. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 I wasn't a fan of p90x I have both of the p90x versions plus insanity and asylum I liked insanity the best. I was doing insanity plus lifting while I was deployed with great results. I did the ab ripper x also from p90x it's brutal both the ab specific work outs for both p90x abd insanity are nuts. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 30, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Yeah the first time i did the p90x workout i couldn't do the entire ab workout until the second to last week. That thing is nuts and anyone who doesn't think so either is lying saying that htey can do it all or they are like one of the people on the videos who have about 2% body fat and completely ripped. I looked at the insanity workout but i do my cardio type stuff elsewhere by cycling so that is why i stuck with the p90x. I am debating on getting the p90x2 once i finish this round of workouts though. Quote
jhoffman Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I have a bum shoulder, I tried p90x, in the second week my shoulder that I had repaired and didnt have a problem with came out of socket in the middle of the night again, ten years later. Quote
gripnrip Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I'm fixing to hop back on the "Bring It!" wagon. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Fly alot of those people are already in great shape and look for another challenge. But Ill say this, if you have your daily caloric intake, protein, carbs, and good fats in check or follow the dietary guide it will def speed up results. Both in fat loss and muscle growth. I think 90x is a great routine, (tried it) but Insanity is better(completed it) I say this because, all of these excercise can be done without bands and ect I was 239 lbs when i stared eating right and insanity. I got down to 189. ...back up to 205 so i can probably stand to do it addition to my routine Quote

I have friends that do the insanity and it just isn't my thing i guess. I prefer the weight training. Luckily for me i already have a pretty decent diet so it isn't some huge life change to follow their plan. P90x is definitely an intense workout though and there are aspects i am not to fond of like the yoga/balance workout....seems like a waste of time to me so i just ride my bike instead Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Because i was too cheap to buy the equipment and whatnot. I got a burnt copy of the dvds. after insanity i started going to a gym that is owned by a local bodybuilder/cop and he got me on a really intense high rep/low weight work out. I still do that routine 4 days a week but over time i have went way up on the weight and still long reps. My problem is since my brother died in November, i have let my routine and diet go to hell. I cant blame ot on his passing, but its true. In all fairness, i didnt give 90x a fair shot. 1 Quote
gripnrip Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 From what I see and have heard insanity is more cardio. I haven't tried it soooo I can't knock it. I like lifting weights. Heavy weights! But I'm sick of the mirror fairy's. I have to watch tinkerbell at home. I don't want to see it at the gym. So P90X for me. I like the weight training. I have a buddy that's a strength and conditioning coach. He told me guys need to lift weights along with cardio to get the full weight loss potential. I think it's preference whichprogram you do. Super User flyfisher Posted January 30, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 30, 2013 The best purchase for me with the p90x was a set of the selctable dumbells. My first time around i had the screw lock jobs and the hassle and extra time it took sucked. I didn't get the soloflex ones but some other brand that goes up to 50lbs and more weight can be added later on if needed but for me 50lbs is enough for the majority of the workouts in there with the exception of the lawnmower and heavy pants but it still is plenty for a good burn, for now at lesat http://www.powerblock.com/prod_homeuse_elite5-50.php It still amazes me how good of a workout you can get from pretty much all body weight exercises. One thing i will say is if you are loking for a ab burning workout with less stress on your back give the abcarver pro a shot. Seems gimmicky but after doing my first workout with it yesterday, which was more of a test and get used to the equipment deal, my abs are definitely sore today. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Insanity is mostly cardio yes. That's why I also lifted on top of it. Insanity got my run time down a ton plus the cardio helped me considering I did the army 10 miler and 2 half marathons and countless 5k's I used to get winded running 100yards lol. I'm dieing to start insanity again but this gallbladder and stones issue has me out for now. I might start up asylum also but idk it looks crazy. Quote

11justin22 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I started insanity and it was great. Had to stop about half way through though because of shin splints. Could barely stand up. Lol Quote

Could barely stand up. Lol Mine went away with the more I did insanity I used to get them everytime I ran. First week or two of insanity and my whole body ached but then it all went away includin shin splints. I do insanity barefoot though also I know with the wrong shoes they will give you shin splints bad. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 31, 2013 Super User Posted January 31, 2013 I just think it's all insanity, LOL. No really, my brother and a group of friends did P90x over a year - i.e., stretching out the exercises due to limited time. His results were awesome, and now he's on P90x 2 and adhering to the dietary guidelines. Me? I've got P90x. My older sons love it. I want to love it. I want to do it. But my motivation level is low, unfortunately. I need to do it for my health/heart's sake. I'm only 43.5, but am the heaviest I've ever been for my small frame. Once I turned 40, my metabolism seemed to have shut off or dropped off massively over night and what was previously a lifestyle of eating and no worries became the exact opposite. My doc(s) confirmed that this is not uncommon (turning 40 and the changes kick in). 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 P90x is awesome if you're willing to stick with it through all 90 days. Give it all you got and guarantee you'll love the results. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2013 I am about a week in and feeling good. I am sore but that is a good thing!! I have done this routine before so i have modified it somewhat. I am doing my own ab routine as theirs hurts my lower back to much and i am changing up the plyometrics and yoga days to do my own cardio. I am also training to do the MS150 charity bike ride here in richmond so i need to make sure i am ready for that too. I'll keep everyone posted on my results as i move along. Quote
gripnrip Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Im starting tomorrow. Im tired of being a whale! Lol Quote
tysonmm Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Go For It! It's a great program! It's never to early to start, but there comes a time that it is to late to start, and you don't want to get there. Checkout my before and after pics on my blog at www.XFitOnline.com I started at 255lbs and 5'10" in Jan 2011. In 9 months, I went from a 40" waist to a 32" waist and 255lbs 41% body fat to 190 and 20% bodyfat. I've not done it in 6 months and put on about 7-8 pounds since. I'm starting back up again in about a week. Quote

tysonmm Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Good Deal! Just keep it up! It's only 90Days and can change your life! Especially of you do 2 rounds in a row, and only eat what you catch! Quote

I do insanity barefoot though also I know with the wrong shoes they will give you shin splints bad. I kept going for another four days after they started...that's why I could barely stand. It wasn't just a sore feeling. It was a feeling like somebody took a baseball bat and hit me across the shins lol. I have always played sports and lifted weights but that was the worst pain from working out EVER. Also I started it up again a month later but fell off the wagon. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2013 Shin splints are horrible. Usually it is from ill fitting shoes or from using those squishy insoles. You need support in your shoes not cushion. I prefer superfeet brand insoles. Yeah they are uncomfortable at first but once your foot gets accustomed to the support you will be pleasantly surprised. I use them in all my outdoor shoes from hiking, running and cycling shoes with great success. Quote
