papajoe222 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 The last step of my pre-spring Cleaning and Organization Ritual is cleaning the cork grips on my rods prior to mounting the reels on them. For more years than I care to remember I've used kitchen cleanser with bleach and an old tooth brush to get them looking good again. I was just wondering what you guys do, if anything, to get them looking 'top shelf' again? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 The last step of my pre-spring Cleaning and Organization Ritual is cleaning the cork grips on my rods prior to mounting the reels on them. For more years than I care to remember I've used kitchen cleanser with bleach and an old tooth brush to get them looking good again. I was just wondering what you guys do, if anything, to get them looking 'top shelf' again? I used low odor mineral spirits and some old rags to clean mine. Then I used a toothbrush and sealed with a single coat of UV-40 cork sealer. Just like new! Quote

fowlskies Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 You can't beat using a Mr. Clean magic eraser; simple, quick, doesn't cost much and gets your cork looking like it came off the shelf. Some guys use a sealer but the name of it escapes me...do a search on here for cleaning cork and you'll find more than enough info. Quote
fowlskies Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 U-40 is the sealer just found it in the article posted above. Wish I could find it in a brick and mortar, hate paying $5 shipping for something that costs $5. Quote
