Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 29, 2013 Super User Posted January 29, 2013 OK, I couldnt help it, its getting to me. I have not had the time to go fishing for about 2 weeks, and its starting to kill me. I look at this forum too much during the day on my cell phone, and my wife is starting to think I need to go to rehab or something. I just had to purchase a CU100B from Bosn because the Shimano bug bit at the perfect opportunity to get a hold of a classic in the 100 series form, as opposed to the 200 series that I sold to DeakNH because it was too big for my liking since the LP's came. The reel is due to be to me tomorrow or Thursday, and Im already planning my attack on it. So as the thought process in my brain started ticking, norepi and epi being excreted from my adrenal glands, and the axons and dendrites making my motor skills active, I had to start searching for some parts. First stop, Boca Bearings for the Abec 5 SS kit. 2 spool bearings, and 1 crankshaft bearing. Do I know if the ones in the reel are good? No. My plans did not care for that to be an option. Next stop, Carbontex drag washer. Again, is it good? This thought was that the reel is that old, Im not gonna take the chance for what little it is gonna cost me for the part. Now I wait for the reel to get here so I can fully disassemble it and clean it so that there is not a trace of dirt or lubrication, so that I can see if I need to make a call to Shimano for any replacement parts it may need. My final plan, to make this reel my new daily user so I can retire the Curado50E to the "Tourney" arsenol. Dont get me wrong, the setups that I have that I call my "Tourney" arsenol are used when going out on the boat with my buddy too, maybe not all of them depending on the conditions that day, and an occasional road trip here and there. I like to have one rig dedicated to be able to throw in the car and go hunting around the local canals. As long as all goes well, and the reel comes out good, then its game on. Final issue is getting a good rod for it. Oh, wait, the Spring Classic is coming! Timing is key, and my wife is already excited for me. (No shes not, that was a lie. She actually wants to kick me in the.............). I really dont know why I decided to post this, but like I said, Im having withdrawals, and at least its better than the needle and the spoon. I couldnt help it Hootie 2 Quote
KDW96 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I completely understand your situation sir.I would be thrilled if it had only been 2 weeks since ive been. 1 Quote
Rangerphil Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Been 8 weeks and probably 5-6 weeks more before I get the boat on the water! Pure torture, but being somewhere where you can fish and still don't go for 2 weeks is probably just as bad! Quote
mnbassman23 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I feel your pain, it's been even worse for us northerners..I hadn't been fishing since the 2nd week of november, until this past saturday. Drove 3.5hours one way just to fish the mississippi from shore for 6 hours. Felt great and was well worth it. My only other form of fishing consists of sitting on a big sheet of ice, not really my idea of a great time... I really need to move down south The real problem is I fix my withdrawls by buying new gear... but than I'm stuck looking at the d**n stuff for another 3-4 months while winter continues to ruin any sign of open water fishing Quote
thehooligan Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I havent fished in a week from the ice but its gonna be 60 tomm so ill be out there. Dont know how the guys in the real cold areas do it, ice fishing wouldnt hold me over till spring. Thank God we've had pretty mild winters for the past few years.... Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 I have not been in my boat.........or any boat.........since early nov. I did make it out onto the ice 2 days last week, that helped, hopefully I get on the ice a few more times, but we just have not had that cold of a winter. I am still looking at 6 more weeks, at best, before I get the boat out again. Then it's pretty much non-stop till I put it away, if I go more than a week without being on the water at least once it's a looooooooooooong time. It's nice to live, and work 15 mins from the local lake. Quote
Kevinator1 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Gambler, you are as sick as I am! I can't get this stuff off of my mind either! Quote
Diggy Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Baits came in today and I couldnt get to the lake, its out back, I know the feeling Quote

Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 30, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 30, 2013 I just got the CU100B in the mail. Cant wait for the bearings and drag. Going home afterwork to tear it down. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 31, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 31, 2013 Spooled it with 15# YoZuri and gave it a preteardown run. Drag felt like it was shot, but the reel was smooth. Went home and took it apart. Figured out the drag was weak due to the order of the crankshaft stack. Decided to take the handle and drag star of a Citica G and put it on the Bantam. Looks pretty cool. Im sure performance is gonna be amazing when the Abec 5 kit and the carbontex drag get here. So far, Im pretty impressed with it. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 My friend, I have not fished since October and bass doesn't open until June here. The only way I've been able not to go crazy is to organize, reorganize and then reorganize my gear. Buy new reels and rods. Imagine what I'll do with the two dozen or so hard baits and few dozen bags of plastics I've gotten since November. Watch fishing DVDs. Watch MLF. Be constantly on bass forums And it's barely keeping the insanity away. I'm breaking down and going for trout and northern pike this year since the seasons open earlier but it won't be the same until I'm catching those bass again. 4 months and 22 days and counting. 142 days. 12,268,800 seconds. Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 I've got my own funk going on, can't get any fish offshore on a calm day and when the bite is on it's too rough out there. The inshore bite has not materialized yet, only caught one fish over 30#, but I'm trying every day. I took a few days off from bass fishing to spend time with my wife, felt good. Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I too, am chomping at the bit and have been for the last couple of weeks. All my reels are cleaned and respooled, rods are finished building or getting cleaned up, hooks on my baits have been switched out, tackle boxes organized and relabeled, hook box has been replenished, new prop, t/m plug and recepticle replaced, new depth finder on order............now it's sit on my hands and hide the charge card for the next four weeks. ) Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 1, 2013 Super User Posted February 1, 2013 Last time I got out was about 3 weeks ago. Didn't catch anything, but we had a good time. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted February 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2013 Boca Bearings ABC 5 kit in place. Reel is still apart awaiting the carbontex drag that should be here today. Took the knobs off the handle, and installed bearings in them. Now have a CiticaG handle with 2 bearings per knob, cool and smooth. This thing is gonna be a casting beast! 1 Quote
