Bassaddiction Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Can you still catch isolated fish? I am thinking of throwing this in the pre spawn and I think some fish I catch aren't schooled up when I catch them on hair jigs. This is mainly smallmouth fishing maybe I would be lucky to catch a big largie getting ready to come up but mainly smallies. I was just wondering since I know alot of guys throw this in areas where shad and bass has schooled up but we dont have a whole lot of that here in the Northeast.Any help or ideas are appreciated...... Super User Darren. Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 No replies so far ... Hmmm. While I haven't fished the A rig, my understanding is that it mimics baitfish to bass whether or not they (bass) are schooling or isolated. So it should work on either schooling or loners... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 30, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 30, 2013 It will catch fish as long as you have bass feeding on schooling baitfish. I've fish the A-rig a lot in Missouri and Arkansas on Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock, and Bull Shoals and have yet to catch more than one fish at a time on it. Don't know if that means the fish were just singles or if they were just the most aggressive fish in the school. Early in the season has been by far the best time of year for the rig for me though. Super User roadwarrior Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Spring and fall. I have never caught a fish on the outside arms nor more than one fish at a time. The Rig is on fire around here. More importantly, HUGE fish are being caught, 11+ lbs in tournament weekend before last. In the same tournament, two 8+ also! My best smallmouth on The Rig is 6 1/2 lbs, but lot of 4s & 5s. I will be interested to hear how you do. Good luck! Quote
gripnrip Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 It's killer on prespawn bass. Find where they are staging. Secondary points. Deep water next to spawning flats.......oh yeah and HOLD ON! Quote
Bassaddiction Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 I am planning on fishing it in my team tournaments this season in the early months. This season I am fishing on my friends boat instead of mine and he doesnt throw this rig so its something that I think can be a game changer because it is NOT a popular tactic up here and I'm hoping its a game changer for me. Thanks for the replys. Have you guys thrown it on isolated rock shoals and or rock walls? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Yes! Suggestion: BUY A LURE RETRIEVER if you don't have one! Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Bass Pro has a good one. I found a chalk line retrival case at a garage sale that really works great for storing the line. So, you might want to buy one of those, too. Quote
