Cars? Don't know if it's a classic, but here's one I've been driving for 40 years, 4 months, and 20 days (bought it new in '72). It relates to this thread since I use it to go fishing about once a week or so (in fair weather). In these shots, it's always got at least 3 or 4 rods in the back and is parked at my local lakes.

Pretty "classy" 'ole fishin' car - huh...

Not many left up in your neck of the woods I would think, winter salt and the tinworm probably got most of them...

Yeah most up here are rusted and rotted out pretty bad. I would love an old z either 240,60,80 just not the 280zx. I used to have a '91 300zxtt but always wanted the older datsuns even a 510 would be sweet. I would put a modern engine in it though either a SR20 or RB25/26 real clean and stupid fast.

That Datsun brings back some good memories, wonder what she's up to?...

Nice Rock!

I was never into Z's, but I was in 510 club back in high school. Wish I still had mine. My father drove a 620 pickup until the mid-eighties that finally crapped out at just over 600,000 miles (to the moon and back, and then some.) I think the truck was a '73 or '74. It was a dually, which I'm assuming is pretty rare nowadays. Goose52's Z is a fine example, nice ride.

I had a 510 wagon and traded it in on the Z-car - wish I could have kept it all this time. Yep - SR20 in the wagon for sure.  For the Z, I don't know if you saw the earlier post, but I had a 331ci SBC in it for 5 years - about 365 (gross) horsepower - no RB26s available back then.

I loved the 620 pick-up - especially the King-Cab...which was the first extended cab truck on the market. The 620 is another Datsun I wish I had. Only have room for the Z-Car though so no other classic Datsuns in my future.

Just to keep this post fishing related - another shot of the Z last week at a local lake.

Thanks, we're lucky we get to fish the ocean off NY and the Chesseapeake Bay. The last few years has seen some very large fish, I'm convinced the record will be broken again in the next several years.

I did see that about the smallblock ya stuffed in it. Iv seen them with just about everything stuffed under the hood. Not a z but close the garage I used to wrench at one of the other guys had a Opel GT we "stuffed" a ford 460 into that had the block filled and bored out I don't remember the final displacement but it was insane ran a 7.8 something in the quarter I know her broke the 8second mark with it shortly after the swap.

I look for old datsuns all the time it's like on the top of my wish list. In fact I'm gonna go scour eBay and trader for one lol.

You guys are both crazy  :occasion14: . My friend Nick had a '64 Falcon Ranchero with a 302 in it. That was the scariest car I've ever ridden in (about 9 second 1/4 mile.) I can't even imagine the Z's you guys are talking about.

Since we are showing family & old cars, this is my boys and wife in the ole beater ....

This picture of me and the boys makes my wife and I laugh, we still have no clue what the boys were looking at.  I tell every one, that they were reacting to their mother jumping off the back of the boat naked (as the youngest pets the pike)

Ah - it's nothing but a roll-bar, not a cage. You remember the old Chevy ad - "Body by Fisher"?  Well, Datsun is "Body by Reynolds Wrap."   The unit-body is really thin. That was good and bad, the car was about 2,500 lbs with the SBC in it - that was good. But, with the SBC I had enough torque that the unit body was twisting. I have wrinkles in the firewall from flexing and the back-end was winding up.  I put the roll-bar in the back to stiffen up the unit-body back there.  Plus, I was just crazy enough back then that ending up on my roof was a small possibility.  When a Z-Car rolls, the A-pillars usually always collapse, sometimes the B/C-pillars as well.  I wanted at least something to keep the roof off my head.  Back then I used to run a comp seat and 4-point harness as well - those are gone but I left the bar in since it's not in the way.

Yes that is a 69.  It also has a 490 in it.  With twin Holleys.  A few other things, I also converted it from an auto tranny to a Hersh 4 on the floor,& dual exhaust out the back.  Every thing has been done over, the only thing I have left to do is put a wood bed in it.  She gets up and goes.
