GaterB Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Any opinions on the Lew's Tournament MG? I have the Tourney Pro and love it! Thinking of adding the MG to finish off my rod/reel collection...for now... Quote
Diggy Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I have one and it serves me well when I use it. I have some bps fluoro in it but will probably convert it to my frog/jig reel shortly. You can get the BB1 for the same price on ebay if you were to buy this reel(the mg) in a retail outlet, just to have something different. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 29, 2013 Super User Posted January 29, 2013 I have it in 5:4:1 for a cranking reel. It was my only Lews option at the time since I'm a lefty but if I had it to do over now I'd get the BB1. I received a BB1*** for xmas in 6:4:1 and it's just a better reel all together. I'd put it right up there with my tournament pro's just a hair under it. You can get the new BB1 models all day for $129 shipped on ebay. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 29, 2013 Super User Posted January 29, 2013 Turn off the centrifical breaks and just use the mag breaks ... I don't think you'll like it. I don't like the mag breaks I'd look for another TP even if its used. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Get the BB1. You will be glad you did. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 29, 2013 Super User Posted January 29, 2013 I haven't used the bb but other than it having 6 breaks instead of 4 from the specks I'd rather have the TP Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 29, 2013 Super User Posted January 29, 2013 I never use the mag brakes on my TP's so it doesn't effect me but I guess that could play a part for some. I set 1 centrifugal brake on and call it a day. I'll set 2 on if I'm throwing a lighter bait or the wind picks up. Owning 2 TP's and a BB1 plus 2 tournaments and a tournament mg. let me say I'll definitely have another BB1 before this spring! Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 29, 2013 Super User Posted January 29, 2013 I like the shallower spool, carbon handle & lighter weight of the TP I would like to try the 6pin breaking on the BB. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 29, 2013 Super User Posted January 29, 2013 I highly suggest you try out the new BB1 models. You'll love them. Quote
GaterB Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Guess ill be giving the bb1 a look-see... Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 Rip, i still have not got a BB1, it looks like it would be a good reel. What are advantages over the tourney pro that it has if any? They say that those reels cast a mile Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 30, 2013 Super User Posted January 30, 2013 I wouldn't say there's any advantage. As nice feature to some is the deeper V spool. It's just almost as good as the TP for $27 cheaper and yes it's a smooth caster for sure. If little things don't matter to you such as 1/2oz heaver,no mag brakes, and metal handle. Then I'd say you won't be disappointed when you get one. Quote
