So ill be most likely buying one of these combos before the season starts and need your help :D

Which combo would you buy based on the quality of reel and rod?

My guess is that the KVD one is best because it has 11 ball bearings in the quantum reel.

I bought the extreme rod and reel combo some years ago and the rod was a bit heavy, as well as the reel.

If youd like to take a look here are the links:

Also one more thing to point out....I did some research on the KVD quantum reel and it said 8.3 for the weight.....Seems kinda heavy no? And it says it holds 15yds of 12lb line...this reel seems like it might be bulky...what do u think?

Id appreciate any feedback :)

With all the positive stuff I have heard here about the PQ reel I'd have to roll with that one.

If you haven't yet, find and read Goose52's post regarding the pro qualifier reel. That alone makes the difference for me.

I have fished the PQ reels, but none of the others. Nor have I fished the rods, so I can't really give you an informed opinion.

Good luck with whatever choice you make. Maybe you could do a follow up post and let us know what you chose and how you feel the combo is performing?

Seems the Quantum KVD reel is lighter and has more ball bearings than the Pro Qualifier reel....its only lighter by  .5 oz but still.

Hmmmmmmmmm..... :dazed-7:

PQ - not only from the insane amount of positive reviews but also from a cost and warranty perspective. With the BPS products (yeah yeah I know, no touting the big box boys), you can literally walk in and hot swap them at the counter is one or the other should ever fail at no charge even after one year of use. With the Quantum, after the initial 90 day or 1 year warranty, you might have to send it off to Quantum for an assessment and most likely a charge just to have them look at it plus the cost of replacement.

PQ. don't get sucked into KVD marketing.  more (11) bearings doesn't necessarily translate into quality let alone effectiveness.  they stuff extra bearings all over the reel for bragging rights (like in handle grips).  doesn't help cast farther.

Since there's no mention of the "smooth, strong, silent and reliant" (is that the correct order?), I'll take the PQ. Bearing count means little, as has already been mentioned. A lighter reel also has little importance to me, personally. I fish economy grade rods, and I feel those balance better with a heavier reel anyway. I love a Citica 201D I have had for over a year. That thing probably weighs almost 10 ozs but the balance with that reel on my Powell Max 753 is unreal.

Good luck!

Hate to dissapoint you guys but I went with the KVD quantum combo.

Im super excited about using this. The combo is super light in my hands and the reel is really low profile. Rod seems great also and as soon as I get on the water with it ill write some more detailed review.

The PQ has more of a proven track record here and at BP.

Chose the PQ combo for the same reason.

PQ.

Totally rule out the KVD. The signature series reel is.....well...you already have it so you'll find out. I would take it back.

Good luck.

This is a funny thread. You asked for feedback, and it was about 10:1 for the PQ (based on the comments). You then went with the Quantum-not that there is anything wrong with the KVD combo.

Many of us have proven over time the PQ is a fine reel for the money. I have 4 and will add another before spring. At $99 the rod would not have to be much to justify the cost since the reel is normally sold for that same price.

Good luck with the new combo.  I will be curious to see how it holds up.

PQ for sure. I almost bit, but went Daiwa Lexa 100 instead.
