Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Companies like Shimano, Abu, Falcon, St Croix have stepped up and made amazing rods for the $100 range. Now, we need companies like G Loomis that are known for high priced rods to step up and get with the program. Not everyone wants to spend $200 for a bass fishing rod. 3
Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Agreed. I paid 170 last weekend and that fregging killed me
Super User J Francho Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Why would Shimano cheapen the G. Loomis brand? You want a $200 Shimano/G. Loomis? Buy a Compre. If Shimano slapped a paint job and the G. Loomis name on a Compre, you'd all be screaming in the streets, lol, 4
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Loomis does make a $100 rod, it's called the GL-2................it just costs $190 5
thehooligan Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Loomis does make a $100 rod, it's called the GL-2................it just costs $190 i agree
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 That would be like Loomis making an ugly stick. If you feel you need the Loomis name but can't afford to buy a rod deserving the Loomis name get a Loomis T shirt or decal. 1
Loop_Dad Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I actually don't need more $100 rods, cause the most of my rods are in that range and I am happy 1

Loomis and Shimano are now synonymous after Shimano bought out G. Loomis. Also, dont forget that Fenwick and *** *** put out good rods in that range.
Super User webertime Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 That's like asking for a $20000 Bentley... VW could just slap that logo on a Rabbit, it's still a Rabbit... Lots of companies with multiple brands (successful ones) intentionally have a "high" end and "low" end brand names. Mostly to make the high end ones keep the high end mystique and the low end ones can advertise that they have some of the high end brand's tech. See: Lexus-Toyota-Scion, Acura-Honda, Sony-Aiwa, Cannondale-GT-Schwinn Bikes, Bentley-Audi-VW. Even Pure has Abu/Pflueger-Shakespeare. The only time it becomes an issue is when you start having too many brands and those brands actually compete against eachother, one brand could create a loss. (See Trek bikes in the 90's, they had Trek, Gary Fisher, Bontrager, Klein, Lemond branded bikes all competing against eachother for the same customers). Klein and Bontrager (THE highest quality bikes in the lineup) lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and were discontinued. Keep them seperate. Besides you can still get GL2's with older cosmetics (same rod as the new ones, functionally) for $100 if you look in the right spots.
craww Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 We have plenty of rods in that price range...its the most saturated in the market. I hear where your coming from though, I just bought a $300 fly rod (and $75 worth of line) and had a bit of buyers remorse afterwards. I sold an item given to me that i didn't need specifically to get a fly outfit and even though it didn't hurt my bank account, I still felt it. I'm frugal and appreciate quality lol, two characteristics that dont always go hand in hand. I'm slowly changing to where I feel its better to get higher quality items that you enjoy over a long period of time more than a more diverse cheaper group. Case in point, Ive got a garage full of $50-100 rods I don't use and would gladly trade what I paid for 5-6 of them for one, high end GLX jig rod. If your budgets tight, I suggest saving and being patient. Shop smart and read every review you'll be informed and get EXACTLY what you want.
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 28, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Even though they may be the same company, they will have different specs and styles. Pure fishing does the same with the reels, Im just saying for diversity and sales. Its just nice to have many options for lengths, materials, handles, etc.
Super User tomustang Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 If you feel you need the Loomis name but can't afford to buy a rod deserving the Loomis name get a Loomis T shirt or decal. Plenty of them running around!

Now, we need companies like G Loomis that are known for high priced rods to step up and get with the program. Not everyone wants to spend $200 for a bass fishing rod. If you want a $100 Loomis rod, buy a TFO Gary Loomis Signature Series rod. They're in that price range and are a true Loomis, rather than a Shimano rod with the GLoomis logo slapped on it.
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 There are more rods in the $100 range than ever before. Everyone complained, myself included, when Shimano cheapened the Curado and Chronarch lines. Why on Earth would anyone want them to do that with Loomis? Not everyone wants to fish with a middle of the road rod.
upnorthbassin Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 If you want a $100 Loomis rod, buy a TFO Gary Loomis Signature Series rod. They're in that price range and are a true Loomis, rather than a Shimano rod with the GLoomis logo slapped on it. But those rods are not really a Loomis rod. From my understanding, they used his input for the design and licensed his name for those rods...that's it. They aren't made from Loomis blanks and they don't seem to share much in common with them from the models I've seen. Now he is designing rods for North Fork Composites although I don't know how they compare to the older GL rods.

That cuz the BPS Carbonlite was kicking their ass at $100-$130 range Welcome aboard name brand to the $100 kick ass rod bandwagon! 1
Super User Darren. Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 To piggyback on the topic LgMouthGambler (hope this is relevant to your original post because it got me thinking), does warranty matter at this $100 (or any) price range? I.e., Shimano's are over the counter limited lifetime, others are send-in/pay shipping, etc. Some say that warranties are added to the price of the rod, so does that make the Compre a better/worse value than say the Premier, Falcon or a TFO? Shimano's warranty brought me over to the Compre side of the fence (while looking at Avids... yeah, don't skewer me, please, I do want an Avid still).

Loomis: "I'm well thanks, what can I do for you?" TFO: "We was wondering if you could look at something?" Loomis: "Sure thing what can I do?" TFO: (pulling out a prototype) "Does this look like a fishing rod?" Loomis: "yep." TFO: "If we pay you some royalties, can we quote you on that?" Loomis: "Um sure?" TFO: "SWEET" (fist pumps) "We'll have our attornies contact yours." Loomis: "Sure thing, thanks." Hangs Up TFO: To themselves, "Wooo Whooo! Loomis' name! Loomis: To himself, "Easy money..." 4
Super User J Francho Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 LOL, that might an oversimplification.

Okay, correct me if I'm getting this wrong. You'd like to see G. Loomis and other high priced rod companies to get with the program and offer a line in the $100 range. Why? If you don't want to spend $200 on a rod, there are plenty of good quality rods out there, just like there are plenty of vehicles out there for under $30K. Should Mercedes or BMW offer you something in that price range? I'm not attempting to be antagonistic, just wondering why you'd want something you're not willing to pay the price of.
0119 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 OP didnt you just very recently start a thread that your end all of all rods was the shimano Sellus and that rods costing more were needless for you and your style of fishing? 1

Because you can never have enough options in fishing. I think every brand should try to cover all price ranges for consumers. Is it going to happen prob not, but it would be nice. Was just a thought that it would be a nice option for consumers.
