Southfork Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I've been putting it off for too long....this week I'm finally going to buy my first baitcaster. It'll mainly be used for crankbaits, possibly a few jerkbaits and topwater occasionally. It'll be going on a Loomis CBR 843. I've spent the last 2 weeks searching and reading threads, comparing the Curado and Revos, but I still can't make my mind up. Local shop has a Curado 50e, Curado 200 G6, and a Revo SX (3rd gen.) 6.4:1. I can get any of the 3 at a very low price. I've almost ruled out the 50e, I think it's a little too small for what I'm looking for. But other than that I'm having a rough time here. I hate starting threads like these, but figured I'd give it a shot. I'm about to flip a coin here. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 I thnk you're on the right track about ruling out the 50e. I prefer slightly more line capacity for cranks. The 200 sized reel of your choice ought to suffice. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 Well, our "unscientific polls" generally total +/-60% Shimano vs the field. Some guys like other brands so how do you choose? It's easy for me. Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. 1 Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 Wait, wait, wait!....... still has a Curado50E? I wouldnt rule out that reel at all. I crank with a 50E, whats the problem? It holds plenty of line. I spool mine with 12# YoZuri. What do they want for it? Quote
drew4779 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 2x 50e. I personally am not a fan of the mag breaks on the revo. They just don't seem as consistent. Never used a g series so I can't give an opinion. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 X3 on the 50e, they are getting harder to find nib. It holds plenty of line for crankbaits and is a great freshwater bass reel. I would choose it over the 200G and the Revo. I'm not a Revo fan though. All 3 reels should be good for what you're wanting to do. The only other reel I would add to your list is the new Daiwa Lexa 100. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 How much do they want for the 50E? I am interested. Quote
Southfork Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 How much do they want for the 50E? I am interested. I could probably get it for $125. Maybe less if I buy a new Loomis with it. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Of the reels you have listed I would go with the Curado 200G in 6 gear ratio. The SX is a great reel, but an absolute pain the 6 to learn on. I have no experience with the Chronarch but it may be a bit small for an all around bait caster. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 I could probably get it for $125. Maybe less if I buy a new Loomis with it. If it is NIB, I would jump on that. Quote
Southfork Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Yea I'll probably give it a shot, read many favorable reviews about it in the past hour. Yes, it is NIB. Figure if it's not for me, then I could probably get my money back based on prices I'm seeing used ones go for. Thanks to all. Hoping the rod works out too. I've never used anything from the Loomis crankbait line. While it'll be 90% used for CBs, I'm hoping it'll handle some others here and there. It's kinda a pain to tote multiple rods on a wading trip. Arv Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I love the 50e. If you don't go with the G6 over the SX, IMO. Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 You better grab that 50E and run like hell. You are never gonna get a better deal than that. At least not anymore. I was one of those who got my 51E for $98 when they were on closeout. Only regret is that I didn't buy 2 or 3 more at that time. Quote
Southfork Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Hope this lives up to it's reviews. 1 Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Awesome congrats Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Oh boy. Gonna be another fan boy, lol. Quote
Southfork Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Oh boy. Gonna be another fan boy, lol. Already was a fan boy of their spinning reels. Curado felt great in the backyard...longer casts than I expected. I played with it for about an hour and didn't have a single backlash. The braking system on these must be pretty good, all I know about baitcasters is what I learned from the 2 videos stickied in this forum. Quote
Arv Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Hope this lives up to it's reviews. Sweetness. Quote
