Super User slonezp Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 Just because you think the ice is safe, doesn't mean it is. A well respected all season guide from Northern WI lost his life while ice fishing yesterday. http://www.northlandsnewscenter.com/news/nw-wisconsin/Man-Dies-After-Falling-Th-188509261.html Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 Hell of a good guy, too. Genuinely sad by the news. I've fished with Jim a few times and know him reasonably well. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone. Quote
CoBass Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Sad news indeed. Condolences to the family. Ice can be fickle stuff. We've had a short warm spell here and a guy on our local fishing boards posted a picture of a hole he drilled that was in six inches of ice. Right behind that hole was a bigger hole that his daughter went through and you could see that it was less than two inches thick. She got out and was okay but still, scary stuff. Be careful out there guys, no fish is worth dying over. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 28, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 28, 2013 He filmed this show for Gillespe just days before his death. John had some nice words to say about Jim. http://www.gillespiefishing.com/ Quote
