Super User rippin-lips Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 Getting ready for the upcoming season. Thanks to Siebert Outdoors and FishingSkirts.com I kept myself busy for a few hours tonight. Made up a bunch of 1/2 3/8 1/4 swim jigs and some arky's. Now to choose the ones I want in my plano box. This is going to take a while. Haha Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 If possible can you post a picture of the head design from the front of their 1/4 swim jig? I'm looking for a company with plain swim jig heads for my own skirts and i'm very particular about the head/line tie Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 27, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 27, 2013 Hopefully this will do the trick for you. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 27, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 27, 2013 Great way to pass the time during the winter months. I think I have a disease, I've tied 4 3700 boxes packed full of jigs the last 2 winters, probably somewhere between 400 or 500 jigs and chatterbaits. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 27, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 27, 2013 Yeah I've always thought about buying the stuff to tie my own but I know what would happen if I did. I bought 15 packs of skirts and 60 jig heads so I ran out of jig heads tonight before getting them all put together. I put in an order for another 6 packs of skirts in white, pearl, and hologram colors plus 60 more jig heads. I have a problem already I think haha. Quote
jhoffman Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I need to order more heads myself. I have some promised to another guy and need a few more in my collection in the 3/8, 3/4 and 1oz department Quote

Oh no, you are now in trouble, the next thing that will happen is you are going to get tired of buying heads so then you'll get a bottom pour melter and a couple of molds. Then you will start buying hooks by the 500 and 1000 ct boxes and have pouring sessions for 4 and 6 hours at a time then you'll be getting fluid beds and pounds of powder paint or vinyl or airbrush paint and then you'll be divorced and the only criteria for your next home is that it has a basement or work shed for you to keep maiking baits. Yes, this is an addiction that will spread and just wait until you get into hair jigs and then you end up with bucktails, thread, marabou, hackle, craft fur, and rabbit strips and so on and so on...... Welcome to the madness!!!! 1 Quote

Super User Teal Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 Very cool Rip. Tied or banded? Im debating on buying completed jigs from Seibert Outdoors or buying the components like you did and tying my own. Like your color combos Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 27, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 27, 2013 They're just the boss banded skirts ordered from fishingskirts.com. I do have some pro tie and hole in 1 skirts ordered from another place. Fishing skirts doesn't have anything in light colors unfortunately. Quote
Will Wetline Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 If there is such an organization as Baitmakers Anonymous? Not that I need to join myself . . . Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I like these heads for a swim jig. With the weight further back they swim flatter instead of nose diving. I paint them with nail polish from the dollar store. The nail polish sticks great to the raw lead and does not chip easily. Quote

I mainly use the spinner baits that have majority of the weight hidden under the skirt like that so it has a 1/4oz head profile but still weighs 1/2oz. Quote

That is a custom mold and Barlows sell the jigs like that and I hate them, They are ok for swimmin in an around grass but if you are fishing them around wood such as limbs and dead falls well don't stop reeling. They do indeed fall flat and because of that they get hung if you stop them or in my case, try them as a flipping or casting style jig. I got a few heads thinking if they were good I'd get a similar mold cut but I saved money as I didn't like it. The same for spinnerbaits with the hidden weight, they aren't very good if you don't like using trailer hooks which I don't use. Quote
